(Years later I'm doing 160s! New vids on page 4!)

Just finished up breaking in the subs. Its a 1997 Yukon with 2 Sundown Audio X18 V.2 D4s on a SCV 40000 @ 1 ohm. I used about 200Sq feet of Second Skin. BMR 350 amp alternator. 4 yellow tops. 2 up front and two in back. 2 Runs of 0 to the rear. Pioneer Head.

This is what I was coming from.. It actually lasted me 10 years of zero problems until an amp blew, so I decided to replace it all!

From 2 L7 15S on 2 BD 1000s (1ohm hacked)..

Here' s a Video. My phone absolutely will not pick up any sounds under 30Hz so I dubbed some good stuff in.. You can hear the rattles though. Huge amount of flex in the roof.

Highs are Alpine Sps 6.5s on a Sundown 50.4 amp. I'm working on the highs setup and panels when I get more time but for now they are ok..

Im responsible for the install. I don't compete at all anymore so I'm not sure if this will ever see a meter, but It feels like its tapping 150DB from my past experience for what that's worth..

The box was made by a local shop here in Denver that failed after the 2nd week. He did not read specs on the sheet I gave him and cut the 18 holes too big. After I put the alternator in and was able to set gains to near max, both speakers popped out, ripping through the MDF because half of them were literally a fingernail from the edge of the cut. There was not enough room to use T-nut inserts and there was no choice but to uncarpet the top of the box, add another sheet of 1' MDF ontop of the failed cut with the propper cut. Then added two MDF 1 inch rings so I have 3 inches of MDF backing instad of the ONE in the original box design. He did not warranty his work and blamed me for "playing it too hard" and " likely clipping my subs" lol...

Everything has been good since I went through it and is what I should have done myself in the first place but I was room limited.

He's right. Unless you're source has a max output of close to 200milivolts, you're probably clipping the fuck out of those subs. But it's pioneer deck, right? So the highest preout voltage that you're feeding to the sub amp is at least 2v, but most likely 4+, so if you have the gain maxed out, welcome to clip city.

Yea man. I think he tried to sabotage it, honestly. He was trying to sell me his DD brand at full retail the whole time and constantly ripped Sundown. I mean constantly.. I'd laugh when he told me his prices because I just don't pay retail for anything anymore. It's not hard to be resourceful these days and dealers hate internet buyers can beat their prices..

As far as the gain, the amp is a little over 3/4. Zero bass boost, knob is always set at zero unless I'm sitting at low volume and want more bass. Gains on the pioneer (at least on the EQ) are all set at 0 and bass set at -5 with loudness set at minimum.

I can get the amp to clip via the sundown indicator but I REALLY have to push it lol.. The subs feel like they could actually take another scv4000 strapped in.

Clipping or not, I was mislead and the box wasn't measured right and failed.

2 SCV4000s strapped. x18 v.2s won't last long even the gains are at 1/4. They get hot and smelly pretty fast, I'm either gonna get with sundown on some different recons or just buy some ZV4/5s. Amps run pretty hot at .5 ohm but I was pumping them. I may just run the speakers at 2 ohms to each SCV4000 until I get 2 more x18 v.2s, or the 2 ZV4/5s. Just no time to make a new box now...
