sbg
So I just got a new high out put alt a few days ago. A 300 amp 6 phase large case hairpin, with built in voltage regulator set to 14.8v. I have 1 xs d3100, 1 batcap 2000 and a super start extreme agm. 1 run cca 1/0 from alt to batteries, 2 runs for each batt to the next. And I don't think I am holding as good of voltage as i should. Car is a 08 chevy hhr. 1 -18" FI sp4 2 synergy wfo 15.1 strapped at 1ohm, So each amp is seeing .5 Small Orion 250.2 on Orion loud speakers and soundqubed 4" tweets Kenwood DDx372bt . Ok so my stock alt was a 130 amp. I would drop to 11.7v at stops and parked and stay for the most part 12.3 12.4 at over 2000 rpm. Well I just got my alt and I am seeing mid 13s high 12s for the most part at over 3000rpm but still seeing low 12s at idle and some times 11s.Am I crazy to think with what I have That I should be holding high 13s and 14? I have checked my batteries all of them are good and rest at 12.9 all lugs on wires are still crimped on and don't move at all. No rust on grounds. And 2 of my grounds are on the factory grounding spot. I put a new gates belt on that was 1/2" shorter and is tight With no slip. What do you guys say I should change or try Or should I call them about the alt? Is it fine and I am just crazy thinking it should be better lol? 01 focus se 110 amp alt Big 3 sky high and stinger hpm ofc 1/0 Super start platinum AGM (starting) 2 runs of 1/0 Execution audio front to back Kenwood double DIN DDx271 A pillars- orion 4" super tweeter and 2-1" alpines. tboorn
is the pulley on the new alternator larger (wider) or have more ribs than the stock one? it looks like it from the picture that the stock one has 4 ribs and the new alt has 5 ribs. and if thats the case and you dont have complete belt coverage that could be an issue, even if its not slipping. i would assume you couldnt switch to a wider belt because the pulley on the engine that controls it is still the smaller belt size. New alt has wider and more ribs, I didn't think that would matter? 01 focus se 110 amp alt Big 3 sky high and stinger hpm ofc 1/0 Super start platinum AGM (starting) 2 runs of 1/0 Execution audio front to back Kenwood double DIN DDx271 A pillars- orion 4" super tweeter and 2-1" alpines. sbg
You can see the belt don't go all the way over. Short by 1 rib. I was thinking when I got it that the pullys were far off for each other. 01 focus se 110 amp alt Big 3 sky high and stinger hpm ofc 1/0 Super start platinum AGM (starting) 2 runs of 1/0 Execution audio front to back Kenwood double DIN DDx271 A pillars- orion 4" super tweeter and 2-1" alpines. tboorn
thats exaclty what i thought. youre alt can definitely suffer from that, without full belt coverage it may not get proper grip, im no alt expert but ive definitely heard them say you want the same pulley width, usually they will match it to your car. diegoclass2010
what rating do those amps have? are you available to a clamp meter to test out the alternator.... lastly you have a ground screwd in with screws by the battery... fix that!
