Wiring a single dual .5 ohm sub

That would be wired in parallel at .25ohms, which is not recommended. Instead wire it in parallel, which would put you at 1 ohm (which on most amps is the lowest recommended impedance). Here is how to wire a single sub in parallel (ignore the ohms in the picture)

Series = 2ohm

series/parallel = .5ohm

Parallel = .125ohm.
