He's back...WOOT

B2?...I'm in! :good:

MY BOY WICKS!!! sup bud! Yes.. Im hoping i can make this car as nice as yours is. I wont be changing equipment like underwear though :( what i have is what is going in unless it breaks. I already went a little crazy on pulling everything together costs wise. I need to buy a house ... not a car stereo LOL. (at least thats what my gf tells me)

good to see you back at it man! tuned into this one

thanks bud. Im looking forward to this build. I just hope that sparing no expense and taking my time and then taking more time after that will pay off. Im trying to keep this car for a long time and do the build once and right..

Still deciding if i should sell the accord or do something silly with it audio wise.

depends on whats mechanically wrong with her, I say keep it!

oh and thats a nice meguiar's collection you got

Thats my detailing cart in the background. Gotta have variety on hand!

KIMG0323_zpskhhcov6a.jpg

Thanks bud. I basically went to their website and picked out everything I would need to keep her in good condition, assuming I would bring her to the local hand wash and pay $18 to have them wash it. I was told by my detail buddy that the tire gel is a bad choice but the rest was good. He says most of the tire dressings on the market will dry out the tire.

Looking forward to this build so will keep popping back to see updates.

Thanks for tuning in bro. I hope everyone is excited as I am to get started. Literally counting down the days until all my packages arrive.

Yeah some judges are a little bias that is for sure. I would do rear fill but i dont have enough processing. I dont think rear fill is super needed anyways. This is my tuning process.

I set the gains according to my RMS power handling vs my RMS power on tap, setting some basic filters before I play the speakers...Using Pink noise I RTA the Tweeters, Midrange, and Midbass individually (both left and right). Then I combine the tweeters then RTA, combine the midrange then RTA, combine the midbass then RTA. Finally Ill play the complete left side then run a RTA and then the complete right side and run a RTA. Then ill compare those and make final adjustments.

Once I have done that and I have smoothed out my responses for EQ and level's as it pertains to my driver seat listening. I set the time alignment using a combination of the IASCA CD and pink noise and then begin tuning with music that I am familiar with.

Personally I have never had my car judged at a show, but I had my car unofficially judged by a few veterans in the field and they were decently impressed. So im hoping that this car I can take what I have learned and do well in an actual show.

Dont let the Judges bring you down. There are a lot of poor judges in all the car audio orgs. Hell Sunday I guy was pissed he said he scored a 68 on sql and was pissed because he got a 27. I tried to help him but he feels PRVs are the answere. LOL!

Yeah I dont see Pro audio being easy to do well with when your vs higher end components of the 2 and 3 way variety. Id actually like to challenge myself to do a SQ pro audio build with only PA speakers. But it would need a ton of on axis and a ton of playing around on a DSP (in my opinion)

I like your tuning process. How do you set crossover frequency? I would think that you could play a tweet and a mid and rta. Then turn both crossovers up and down until the overlap is the flatest? I'm learning a ton. Thanks for sharing.

Alright so I'm replying on mobile.

Basically I choose my crossovers based on what the speakers like.

So for my 3 way I know for a fact my tweeters are fine from 2.5k and up. I know my 3's are good from about 250 and up. And I know my mid bass is good down to about 50hz.

I also know what frequency they will beam at based on the outer diameter.

Which happens to be about 4K on the 3" and 2.2k on the 6.5.

Well the 6.5 will be crossed at like 60 and go up to about 450-500 (I set it that way to get rid of the cancelation that center consoles create in most cars)

The mid range I cross from about 300 - 3.5k so I can take the stress off my tweeter with out getting into the beaming territory.

Then I cross my tweeter at the same frequency as the mid range ends.

Once I do all of that... then I put on the RTA and pink noise and do everything like I described before.

I will change crossover points to try and get the correct response curves I'm looking for... then adjust the levels to equalize anything major. Then i will EQ out any crazy peaks and valleys using the RTA methods before.

Then I will use pink noise, sit comfortably in my chair, and adjust the tweeters, mid range, and mid bass separately. So you turn on the tweeters. I like to set volume to a loud but comfortable setting. Then you adjust the left tweeter "out" in time. I like to go back and forth like a swing would be if you pushed it really hard and left it alone. This helps me locate the point where it's in phase and slowly adjust it until it's in the center of the dash.

Then.... repeat again for mid range and mid bass.

^ that's how I personally tune.

Note. I will use vocal tracks to fine tune and then a few select songs to fine tune. Mostly adjusting time alignment at this point because I trust the RTA to get me close enough on making a flat response.

Then I will crank it up slowly to full volume and finalize the levels for each to make sure everything is safe so I can turn it to that volume every time with no issues.

NOTE: this process is used when you have a DSP.
