Internet disconnect help

Recommended Posts

Qos. Is quality of service. They are throttling you because you do bandwidth intensive things

^^^ this. I can pretty much trigger my disconnect now. Sit on a game or forum or Google all effin' day long, nothing, start a Youtube 18 min. HD vid. and bam, internet goes out, comes right back though....

If you can afford to switch your service to commercial, they cannot throttle your connection, but it will cost twice as much.

Just something to look into if it is possible for you to do.

I would rather not pay more, i already hate this provider and it seems expensive already. mediacom, cable high speed, $70/month

Who is your ISP? Do you have a cap per month? Once you run the test it will have a link for public to see your results, link that so we can see your line stats. Any storms or abnormal weather going on when you get disconnected? What modem do you have? Is this cable or DSL?

My cap is 250 gig. I only ever got close when i rented part of my house out and everyone used it. I bookmarked the site but haven't had a chance to do anything with it yet. No storms. Modem is Cisco DPQ2160, i am dumb and still rent it from provider. I am not good with opening port and doing firmware updates so i just stick with this one. i have read the threads on here and I need to buy my own, suggestions for a plug and play one? lol. I think i mentioned it but it's cable internet. I have had DSL though but it's been a long time.

By any chance are you using Adblock+?

I have found that with adblock+ youtube videos load, they play a few seconds and then my screen goes black for the duration of the ad then plays normally.

So now I run 2 ad blocking programs, UBlock Origin, and Adblock+

Ublock gets what adblock+ doesnt and vice versa, but I have Adblock+ disabled on youtube, and Ublock removes the ads just fine for youtube videos.

I do use Adblock+, and Adblock, and adblock pro!!! I disabled them hoping it would solve it and it didn't though (DAMN!!) I will try that other one you use too though because they Adblocks have been good for like a decade but lately they give me problems too. =(

Also use this speed test to test your net, if your being throttled this test will show it because it uses the netflix servers as if you are streaming a movie.

https://fast.com/

Then go and test with https://speedtest.net which is a normal speed test and compare the 2 speeds.

If speeds are the same your not being throttled.

Im sure if your being throttled on youtube, they would do the same to you on netflix.

Its a VPN server.

It masks your IP address and you connect to a different location other than your ISP, so you are no longer using the default routes set by your ISP, and they have no ability to throttle your connection or even really know where it is going.

$6 or 7 a month, but it gets cheaper if you pay by the year.
But if you are for sure being throttled or have connection issues due to your traffic, trying a VPN service out for 1 month only to see if it changes the way your internet acts maybe beneficial and something to purchase for a longer term.

I will try the free one, it's worth a shot. i am running http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest right now...

Have you changed your DNS server to something that maybe more reliable?

Such as Googles public DNS server which is

For IPv4: 8.8.8.8 and or 8.8.4.4

For IPv6: 2001:4860:4860::8888 and 2001:4860:4860::8844

You would be IPv4

I have seen those numbers some where but don't know how to change them
