What track when over powering subs?

Recommended Posts

Hi so running more then rms power to subs the subs are two sundown sa12's rev2 d4 wired to 1ohm on a sundown scv 2000d the subs have a rms of 600. I have a xs power d4800 up front and two xp750's in the rear and a 270 amp alt. Would setting the gain with the -5db 40hz track be the safest bet? Or should I set lower?

when i was overpowering my SA's you could hear a lot of motor noise when they reached their limits. you arent going to smack the former against the back plate so you will just have to pay attention with your nose and try listening to some test tones and bring the level up with your remote gain knob and you will hear the shape of the sound change. So just learn to hear that and know the smell of coils and you should be ok.

Maybe

I can only use 0db. -5db is too loud and even with 0db, I have to turn the sub down on some songs.

0db is to loud? Jeeez., i dont know anyone that uses 0db. No one. But, its rig and preference dependant for sure.

If it works for ya..and your happy,. right on. :hi:

I did use -2.5 when i had large boards on each driver once. But,

I loved -7.5. Was perfect for me and my build. For my gear, and music preferance.

Still, no matter what overlap a user sets at, you need to know your gear....., i knew my build inside and out. Top to bottom. Every peak and valley.

Knew what it should do, what to look out for on every song i demo'd, and every comp........

If a door was open, or what window was down, hell, how many people where inside, i knew how it would change, or take it.... i knew that build better than i knew myself.

But, to each their own.Use what works for you, and for your set up for sure. :good:

I dont see the point of overpowering your subs if youre contemplating turning down your amps gain anyway.

-7.5dB. Use your senses.

and like Kyle said, LEARN your gear and know your music.

Edit: I just saw that youre wired to 1 ohm nominal. You arent seeing much power at all. Dont be worried.
