2005 Chevy Tahoe 2 Team AA 18s Cpillar 4th Order 10k

Recommended Posts

Got the top angle iron pieces bolted together and screwed in place. Since the roof has a slight slope to it, it was much harder to get the carriage bolts to line up. I had to switch to 3/8" carriage bolts instead of 1/2" ones for the top. I was also only able to get two carriage bolts on the top so I made it up with good thick coarse thread screws into the baffle.

This is the top angle iron piece inside of the sealed side. You can see the only 2 3/8" carriage bolts I was able to get on the top. Was a pain in the ass to bolt those in place lol.

Getting the inside and outside of the sealed section sealed off with foil tape for temp testing again.

You can see the 2 top carriage bolts a litter better in this picture. Was also fun sticking my head in the sub holes to seal the inside lol.

Covering up the amp and batteries to do some foaming to fill up some blank spaces that never got taken care of.

Left some small gaps in this PL to get a foam straw in there when I first put this piece up.

Also got the back of the corners that I put steel cage and fiberglass in foamed up. This should have done been done a long time ago lol. There is much more in the truck that needs to be foamed but that will come at a later time.

Getting the amp out to put both in. Decided to go with some 5/16" threaded rod to stack them for now. I'm sure things will be changed in the future when I start to pretty things up. This will work for now though.

It was a bit wobbly with that heavy ass amp on the top so I moved it down a little bit to help with the wobble. There's now about 3/4" between both amps.

That's where I'm at right now. I'll be wiring and matching the amps tomorrow. Gonna use some normal fuse holders for now until I can get a quad SMD fuse holder sent to me to clean up the wiring. Very excited to get both amps playing, I've never played the subs on full power yet.

So unfortunately I've ran into some bad luck. Got both amps wired up which was a mission in itself. As you can see the top amp is upside down so the set screws are on the bottom and it's a very tight fit between the bottom amp and batteries. Plus the set screws for the speaker terminals are pretty much all stripped. Took me almost an hour to get just the negative speaker wire in and actually tightened down. Was a very frustrating task with all the stripped set screws and tight area. First test the top amp was going into protect right as the bass hit. I wasn't too concerned because I was having issues popping that sub with a 9 volt battery to check polarity so I figured it was a connection. All my wiring and connections were all good on the outside of the box. So I took the whole front loading wall and port off yet again and found a loose connection to the sub for that amp. Easy fix, both subs were reading a steady .5 and both popped fine with a 9 volt this time around. Put the loading wall and port back in and sealed everything up with foil tape again. Drove down the road and started to test. Got about a minute, if that into testing and started smelling electronic smoke when I had my head in the port looking at the subs. Definitely was not coil smell so I went to the back and the top amp was smoking but still playing. Turned everything off and went home and found a small burn mark on the board. The ironic part is the amp that gave the magic smoke was the amp I've been running the last couple of months. You'd think that it would have been the one sitting on my garage floor for 6 months and has been through a truck that was rolled 4 times that would have smoked lol. Funny how these car audio things work. So I wired both subs back together to one ohm and I'm jamming on my original 5k until the other can get fixed. Unfortunate but that's just how this game goes.

Wiring first amp was very easy.

Second amp was much more frustrating to wire lol.

Yes it's an absolute mess but this was thrown together with fuse holders I just had laying around. I was going to wait until I got another SMD quad
fuse holder to wire the second amp but my impatience got the best of me yet again lol. It will all be cleaned up with a nice quad SMD fuse holder soon.

Both amps with those pretty green lights on.

Now here are some pictures of the burn mark on the board. This is where the smoke was coming from and the only burn mark I can find on the board.

  • 1 month later...

Well here will be the final update to this specific build. Unfortunately this build came to end on Friday Feb 24th. I was in a rollover accident at around 50MPH, I was not at fault of this accident. Older lady pulled out to turn onto the crossing street at the intersection on a red light. I attempted to avoid the car but she kept coming and hit me into a street light which rolled the truck. I was not wearing my seat belt during this accident and was able to walk away with only a few MINOR scratches. I had someone watching over me to survive this accident without injury and I am beyond thankful for that. When I realized that I was about to get into an accident with no seatbelt I thought for sure I was dead. I thought to myself this is how it ends for me, so early. All I could think about was all the things I have left unsaid to people I care about, all the things that I haven't done yet, I thought about everything I should have done in my life. I've never had an experience like this before and its given me a completely different outlook on life and the people around me. So I ask you to do one thing for me if you read this. Go tell those people that you love and care about how much they mean to you. Give them a big hug and just hold them for a minute. You never know when that moment could be taken away from you. Life is too short to leave things unsaid and to not love the people you care about every day of your life because that's what truly matters. Now that I've got that said, this is where the story gets weirder. 2 years ago in May I was going through that same intersection and had a similar accident. The truck was rolled 3-4 times and landed 10 feet from where this Tahoe is sitting. I was wearing my seatbelt that time and survived without injury that time also. Both times were on a Friday at about the same time and involved a red car. First time all my audio equipment was able to be salvaged, this time I wasn't so lucky. Well there is my story guys, sucks to see the last 2 years of my hard work and money be ripped from me like that. But I am alive and can see and hold all my loved ones once again which is what truly matters. Have a great day everyone and be safe out there.

Wow man glad to hear that you're ok, looks like some serious carnage inside the vehicle. Being in an accident can be an extremely scary experience.

Ya pictures don't really do the destruction justice. It was absolutely destroyed in every aspect. Thanks though man.
