Pioneer GM-D9601 1200 watt RMS Amp Dyno Test

Pioneer has been in the car audio industry since the 1970's, but do they still have it? Ok, so it's not 5000 watts, but the GM-D9601 is available for under $200, built like a much more expensive amp, comes with a bass knob...etc. But how does it perform on the SMD Amp Dyno? Let's see...

its GREAT to see these companies giving people what they pay for.  I really hate to test amps and find out they are bullshitting everyone.  This "Budget" Pioneer amp seems solid!

Not bad at all. Seems to be well built, internals are not thrown together like many of the "budget" amps I see. BigDWiz approved and I've seen these go for as little as $150. Yes, there are cheaper watts per/dollar, but many times you get what you pay for.

I remember that commercial with the bridge! Damn, that takes me back.

Sweet video, thanks. I've used many Pioneer headunits over the years, i liked the one with the swimming dolphins on the LCD display, but never thought about one of their amps. I wonder how it sounds in the real world, in a car, on music. The price is certainly worth it if it works well.

i have not been impressed by some of these Pioneer amps of late.  this surprised me and makes me feel like they are still doing it right.  wish they had larger gauge outputs on some of there multi channel amps.  it's a struggle to fit 16ga in them.  not sure if you had an issue like that on this amp or not.

Not at all. I was easily able to fit 4ga power/ground and 8ga speaker wire into this amp

My first two amps WAAAAY back in the day were a Pioneer GMH-50 and a Pioneer GMH-100.  That 100 in particular was a great amp.  It would get cook your food hot on hot days but just kept chugging along year after year.
