How many runs of 2/0 welding needed?

Recommended Posts

I've currently got a 270a alt, G78 AGM in the front, G31 in the back, with 2 runs of 2/0 welding wire about 13' long each.

I just picked up a 2nd 270a alt and am wondering if I would need to do more power runs.

My research in wire capacity is yielding contradicting results. Some say 2/0 OFC will handle only 150a, others say it'll handle 300a (@ 15').

I'm leaning towards doing another run, or possibly 2 more.

My amps will be two SQ2200s strapped @ 1 ohm (0.5 ohm per amp)

What do you guys suggest?

first of all you need 2 more group 31 and do 3 runs just because overkill is cool

Zero more batteries will fit without removing seats, so it'll just be alt power.

I'm thinking I might just go for the 4 runs. It's only like $60 more for 2 runs...

Thanks fellas.

I'll probably stick to just the 2 runs right now and see how it is, then do more if I need it.

Just wanted to make sure I wasn't making an oversight by buying the alternator and dual alternator bracket and never even considering that my wire might not be capable.
