box for kicker L5 12

Recommended Posts

I recently got a hold of an old L5 and was wondering if anyone had any experience with building a box for them because in the manual it gives a fairly wide range for enclosure sizes, so if anyone has any idea what a good size box would be to start with that would be great.  Also haven't decided if i wanna go with a sealed or ported box yet so might build one of each and try them out.  Just let me know what has worked for you or what u have heard works and ill go from there, and will someone send me the link for the torres box calculator i got a new computer and haven't downloaded it yet.  Thanks for the help

You have a Chevy truck in your title......? What vehicle are you looking to put this sub in? Have to know that one to know what you will be working with... Power also, what amp/amps.

Does this smell funny to you? Its your sister :roflmao:

its an 08 dodge mega cab,  i was trying to change my sig and i cant figure out how.  I will have 2 behind the back seat if possible, and right now they are getting about 900 watts from a power acoustic 1500.1 amp.  At least that is what they should be getting, lol, i am pretty sure i wanna go ported too, i have them in a ported box that they came in and they sound good i just want my back seat back so i will need to figure out a better box for behind my seat.  I will get some measurements tomorrow and post them up.

  • 2 weeks later...

ok its kinda of an odd shaped box but ill give you the measurements of it and tell you what i have and go from there i guess.  lol  My max width is 60in without removing trim panels which i would like to avoid doing.  Max height is 24in and the depth at the top is 2in. depth at the bottom i have figured for 8 inches so the is room for the sub, but the available area is 10in at the bottom. At 7 1/2in up my max depth is 9in and then at 12in up the max depth is 8in and from that point it stays on on an angle to the top of the box.  There is also a bump on the back wall for for the power rear window and the outside dimensions of that are 12in by 14 1/2in and it raises 2in off the back wall.  My min sub depth is 6 7/8in and the cutouts are 11 1/16in by 11 1/16in.  They call for 1 3/4 cubic feet to 3 1/4 cubic feet per sub for ported enclosures.  Before port and sub displacement i have 4.2 cubic feet and thats with a the little box for the bump displacement added in.  I'm going to upload some pics of the space I'm working with and some drawings i have of the box i have designed.  I'm curious on how much port area i need, and what to tune the box too, as well as how much port are per foot i need? Any and all help will be appreciated. thanks
