thought id update the topic. Did the recones and got everything goin, tuned amps with track 3 of dd-1 ( max sound quality) voltage seems ok for now but I tuned everything at 0 subwoofer output and I'm at -2 subwoofer output for break in period.

I did get into the 12s at 2 k engine rpms for a bit today tho

another update. I did finally go full tilt at idle for an after work demo session, my car idles around 1300-1400 rpms (raised idle for more alt output) and I did get sub 12 volts quite quickly, within maybe 20 seconds. on the road home I dropped to around 12.9 at full tilt.

Id say 3 batteries is not enough for 2 5ks. next plan will be a bank of caps to help shore up the situation

Hehe.

He he turns out he really did Need 3 more batts and a alt. Unless you like smoke coming from your equipment.

Youre right. 12s kill equipment. Why even bother with batts then? Caps and alts, no?

A few thoughts here . . .

10,000 Watts of Class D amplifier power

10,000W / 75% Amplifier Efficiency = 13,333W Input
13,333W / 13.8 VDC* = 966A
966A x 50% Duty Cycle for music played back at clipping = 483A

*let's be realistic, shall we . . .

So . . . 966A on sine waves is a reality, assuming you can maintain the 13.8 VDC - which he clearly cannot.

Alternators = Voltage Sources of up to 14.4 VDC (12V charging systems of course . . . )

Batteries = Voltage Sources of up to 12.6-12.7 VDC (fully charged 12V battery)

[Once output of the alternator is exceeded, the best voltage that can be maintained is the nominal voltage of the batteries.  Personally, I prefer 13.8 VDC to 12.anything VDC.]

320A Alternators typically have reduced output between idle (800 engine RPM) and cruise (2,000 RPM) as compared to 240A or even 270A alternators.

Personally, I'd swap the single 320A unit for a pair of 270A units to gain output in the sweet spot.  The output between idle and cruise could be triple that of the single 320A unit!  Then, if I still wasn't happy with the voltage I could maintain when jamming at full tilt, I'd add (5) quality 1F capacitors to each of the 5Kw amplifiers - wired within 12" of the amplifier, of course.
