Precautions for Welding Inside a Vehicle

Recommended Posts

I'm meeting with a welder tomorrow to get my windshield brace stitched up and completed.  I have basically no experience welding (tacked a couple times on plate steel, but nothing else), so I wanted to reach out to those that have experience.

My brace is removable but just in case he wants to weld it while its installed in the car, what are some specific precautions I should look out for?

Obviously:
*Disconnect battery and ECU fuses

*Dont weld near the fuel tank or near anything that can melt

*know whats on the other side of your work

Are there any specific things I should be cautious of?  Thanks in advance.

Make sure to bring a good fire extinguisher. just in case. hopefully the dashboard will be covered up by a blanket to keep hot stuff from going down the vents. If the welder has any kind of experience you should be ok.

When I was a kid, my dad had a Suburban that got hit on the side at the back wheel. The insurance company paid to fix it and the body shop was replacing the rear quarter panel. They were welding the new one on and the 4x10 speaker caught on fire and just about burnt the whole truck down. The shop had to re do the seats carpet and headliner to make it right. Be careful.
