Only wanted to do a small single sub setup since this is my daily. Since I knew an aftermarket alt would be expensive and need to be externally reg I tried to keep it under 2k. You can see from the equipment list that didn't happen. This build pics start in 2015 with a really bad attempt at trying to put an 18 in the trunk and span all the way up until now. BIG SHOUTOUT TO DLHgn, he helped me out big time with two very solid box designs. The build wouldn't have turned out the way it did without his help. Thanks a million times my dude. With that crap out of the way lets get on with it SecondSkin B-Stock 40 Pounder and my fat hand Doors back on, stock speakers still in. Only added deadner Cutting wood for the Mayhem 18 Test Fit Stain JVC HU Actually was a very nice unit. This is my second fav single din next to 80prs for budget friendly prices. Running the RCA Back of the box, I put tape over the carpet so no glue would get on it. sorry for low res :/ And this is where the build for the 18 stops. What happened is the box was really weak. The sub powered and play 15 seconds of one song. Night Like This by Gucci to be exact. Low-ish song and it just ripped everything apart. At this point I was just going to take everything out (sub/box/amp) and leave it at that and just have my doors to work on. The whole reason I even wanted to put the 18 in the car was because I had it in my old navigator on a soundstream 3k and it was a solid setup (or so I thought) Fast forward a couple months and I got a good deal on an HDC3 12 so the build started up again. As you can see this box looks 100 times better than the last one. Shoutout to JoeX for the box design. New amp. The SS 2k was either sold or it blew I don't remember. Prob blew. CT Sounds 2200.1 This amp is stout Cleaner, louder, and more efficient than the soundstream 3k. __________________________________________ Building a box for the amp. I wanted fans because at the time I was living in SC and it gets mighty hot down there. Started to deaden the panels before the box was done. Removed the headliner LOL This is as far as the liner would go down without anything ripping or bending in a way I didn't like These are the rear panels. They made a booty ton of noise before, after zero noise. A Pillars And this is where my little obsession with these little batteries started. I picked up two and then two more on a nice amazon sale Kinetik HC600s ' The odd coloring of the stain is from the glue not coming off. I hate the baffle but the top came out nice Someone either took one of my hubcaps or it flew off. Either is entirely possible. Decided to just paint the poopy doop rims it came with Blew the HDC3. Got a recone for it and also ordered the first recone for the mayhem. Also ordered a 12inch basket because I want it in the car. This actually hurt me a lot. Ripping this sub apart wasn't fun for me at all. But it had to be done. At this point I found out that the sub was a D1 when I thought it was D2 and also had a flatwound coil. Dirty... HDC3 compared to the mayhem motor Got an big roll surround I would try out on the HDC3 HDC3 Coil (3in 4 layer copper) vs Mayhem Coil (3in 4 layer aluminum) Recone/Basket came in for the mayhem. The old mayhem had zcon softies so I bought those and kept that trend going. So its mayhem motor with zcon softies(basket is same for both subs) Gas tank had a hole in it and scooped a new one up Replacing stock batt with the 3400 I had in the rear. Lol it blew again (thats 2 for the hdc3 and 1 for the mayhem) VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV THIS IS A MUST HAVE FOR ANY INSTALL VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV Knu 1/0 compared to some super hard to bend welding cable 2/0. also my fat hand again. Picked up a CT Sounds 2500 and it wasn't in very good shape. Not sure if it was from who I bought from or shipping. Probably shipping because the box was beat to shit. i love mail Pick up a CT 125.4 I don't have any pictures of the mayhem on the 2200 and in the old box but guess what... it blew :-) RECONE TIME AGAIN :/ This time I went with OG parts. Actual AA Mayhem Softies. The spiders seemed way stiffer than zcon. The tally is now 2 recones for the HDC3 and 2 for the mayhem. Soldered and shrinked The mudermat made a world of difference on the floors. The car was already quiet but with the floors deadened it was really nice. NEW AMP/ NEW-ish SUB / THAT MEANS NEW BOX This one is for the mayhem 12 Four sheets of birch rings for PWX 6.5 ] using the old box to for some extra weight on the baffle You can see all 10 of the small batteries here. 4 Kinetik HC600s / 6 Shuriken BC20 Only picture I have of the deadner in the trunk. Secondskin in the trunk, trunk lid, and headliner. Stinger roadkill in the doors Murdermatt on the floors old box New floor was needed for this LOL this is how close it was for it to not fitting somehow I don't have any pictures of this install with the mayhem and this box and this amp rack. idk how. I thought it took a bunch.. guess not :/ but what happened is it sounded great but I gave that sub too much power too soon. It needed to break in and I also think having the sub on top created a lot of preasure cuasing the surround to rip. took out the little batties. time for them to be replaced. Old hdc3 box vs the first mayhem box Ordered a new recone for the mayhem. While I waited I wanted to put the hdc3 back in since I just put a recone on it. This time instead of the 2200.1 I put the 2500.1 on it. I also put it in the mayhem box. Guess what wonderful things happened. it blew :-) HDC3 D2 coil normally reads 2.3/4 i think after the little snip in the coil it reads 0.9 LOL This box was a little too big but sounded great. but I wanted to try with the sub firing into the trunk. So new box. ' At this point I dont have a sub to test the box with. The current total for recones is Mayhem: 3 HDC3: 4 I have a recone on the way for both the mayhem and HDC3. The HDC3 doesnt fit in the new box anyways. In the mean time tho.... Picked up this little guy. DB drive motor, zv4 softies, nice carbon fiber dustcap I also picked up a Kinetik HC2400 on craigslist for a S T E A L! But its resting a little low. When i picked it up it was at 12.8 but after only a few days of not even on any charger or being in a car it was down to 12.2 :/ So I ordered this guy Also ordered another hc2400 This one rested at 12.9 out of the box Also got 100ft of EB Flex 2/0 Adding a bit of wire Sky High 4 Guage - Amazon welding 2/0 - Knu 1/0 - EB Flex 2/0 Put in the new termials and added a ground Adding another run of wire to the rear Cleaned it up Positive and negative jumpers for each battery Test fit for the sub Before the bus bars And after And thats what it looks like today (5/11/17) I am going to re-run the grounds to the amp so they are the same length and they will be more tucked, same with the power. I don't like how the amp wires are. The sub is wired at 2 ohms Plays really nice but isn't anywhere as close as loud as the mayhem. Louder than the hdc3 but not the mayhem. The hdc3 recone is in but I haven't cleaned the sub 100% yet. The mayhem recone isn't here yet. Last one took about 2 months, I assume it will be the same time frame. Whats next? Yeah I want to get an alt. Singer quoted a 370 for 749. Not sure if it comes with an external reg. Current alt and battery setup holds 13+ full tilt while driving and 12+ at idle. Excessive 240 with an external reg would be just over 500. Had good experience with them before so ill probably go with them again. Next on the list is to re-run the one ground on the amp and finish off the dash. btw @ anyone who actually looks at this thread. Still want to clean up the wiring. Once I got everything to a good fit ill paint. This is what it was looking like Replacing the switch to a rotary switch. i didn't like the toggle and that it was silver. bunch of sanding... It may not look like it but its smooth as glass. No pits or divots. This is the first coat. I did 5 or 6 more. Not sure actually. The temp meter is being dumb. Its not reading. Ill fix it tomorrow but I wanted to post a pic. The top piece isn't all the way down, the little gap goes away when its actually clamped down. Next up on the list is TO HOPEFULLY GET THE PARTS FOR THE MAYHEM The current sub is slammin but its not as musical as the mayhem. Plus I'm wired @ 2 and I want to drop the amp to 1. Once I recone the sub then ill see what voltage is like before I order an alt. Im getting one regardless but I want to see how this setup holds @ 1 ohm. Still up in the air with who ill get it from.... Ive only purchased from Excessive, had a great experience with them but might want to see what other companies will do. Also, not completely car audio related but I am hoping to get some tint on this thing sometime this week. We'll see. VA tint laws are dumb as heck but im still going to put 15% on it regardless. VA only allows 35% on most windows but I'm getting 15% because the heat needs to be somewhat blocked. Ill take a little $100 ticket over cooking my equipment #priorities I need to save up some scratch before I drop 700-1k on an alt. But I will for sure be getting an alt.
