Cone control would be better at 4 ohm. Normally as you wire down, the damping factor goes way down too. How much is needed I don't know. When I wired my amp at 2 ohm, it sounded good but I couldn't drive it hard enough to get loud and sounded like crap when I tried. I wired down to .5 and the power is more than enough and I don't have to max it out to get loud. I think having power on tap without maxing out would be better and easier at low ohms than trying to make power at 4 ohms.

One would assume that the power loss do to impedance rise would be very similar between the two amps seeing as one is meant to make its power at 1 ohm and the other at 4ohm, its not like he was asking about wiring the amp that does 2k @ 1 ohm to a 4 ohm load.....

There would be multiple benefits to using the one that makes thr power at a higher ohm load, but also there would be some cons such as the cost of such an amp.

If its a sub amp you may or may not notice a difference, if its mids and highs youll for sure notice a difference.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

I feel like the only con in the bass amp portion, would be price. Your at a higher ohm load, so higher efficiency to make the power, meaning less eat is created. Higher dampening factor compared to 1 ohm.

I'll admit, half way through sanding that fiberglass in the rain and cold while I was all itchy I was definitely starting to question why i was doing this haha

Another con is size, especially if its a class ab amp making that kind of power at 4ohm.
