slm9s Posted May 22, 2017 Report Share Posted May 22, 2017 Upgrading my sub in my 06 GTO. Current sub amp is JBL 7001, 700 watts at 2 ohms rated. I'm going to buy one 12" sub and build a custom ported box. The GTO has the gas tank behind the rear seat, so harder to get bass into the cabin, but many people on the forums have great success with a sub in the trunk. I listen to rap/top 40/rock. My decision is, do I keep the current amp and get a dual 4 ohm sub to run at 700 watts at 2 ohms with my current amp. Or, sell the JBL and get a dual 2 ohm sub and buy something like a CAB 1600.1 or Skar 1500.1 so I can run at 1 ohm. (understanding I will have to run a bigger power cable and maybe the big 3) 700 watts might be fine, I just would hate to buy the new sub then want to upgrade and be stuck with a dual 4 ohm sub.
