dsw422
hey guys, wondering how a car audio shops display wiring works and how to replicate it. like how do you hook up multiple head units to be powered on but don't put out sound till u press the button. and how do you wire the speakers so they only play the radio u want to listen to. same thing goes for auxiliary amps and different speakers.. I found this short article but has my head scratching trying to figure it out.. http://www.caraudio.com/forums/car-audio-build-logs-cars-trucks-suvs/597330-basic-car-audio-display-build-dsp-car-audio-mti-replacement.html thanks for any help 2014 Ford Focus SE Sedan Factory Sony 10 Speaker Sound System 1994 Ford Bronco Dual head unit (i kno) Sony door speakers Kenwood Rear Speakers Custom Center console in the works. will house an NVX NSW10" https://m.facebook.com/WinnsCustomCarAudio/
06RTCharger
If ur familiar with doug Sound Man. Somewhere in amplified season 2-4. Him and Spoon briefly talk about how to build a lil test bench thing for decks and speakers, so you could demo equipment easily to customers. I couldnt find the exact episode but i know it was within season 2 through season 4 because the video i seen was at that old/newer shop.

ShadeTreeMechanic
Interesting project. I worked in an install shop in the early 90s and we had some kind of giant switch box. It looks like what they are doing with the relays is switching each component independently, head units, amps, and speakers. Back in the day I worked on machinery that used relay logic for the timing functions instead of a PLC or computer. I can't quite read the guys notes but it seems that there would have to be a common line for each type of signal, RCA , and speaker line. Each head unit when selected would switch rcas to the RCA common line. Each amp when selected would switch rcas to the RCA common line and speaker outputs to the speaker line. Each speaker set when selected would switch to the speaker line. This is a very simplistic way to do it and would work, but you would have to switch each component off before selecting another. A way to prevent two from being selected at the same time, or priority given to next component selected would require some serious thinking but could be done. It would be good to find a supplier that would give volume discounts on the relays. lol 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
dsw422
it seems a bit complicated... lol... heres what I have going on.. there are going to be 6 different radios, at least 10 sets of speakers, at least 6 amps, and 2 subs. all these I need to try to wire together and be able to listen to each component independently.. think I need to have a computer program run this? I was hoping someone may have a diagram for wiring of the back of one of like walmarts displays cuz that's basically what im going for.. 2014 Ford Focus SE Sedan Factory Sony 10 Speaker Sound System 1994 Ford Bronco Dual head unit (i kno) Sony door speakers Kenwood Rear Speakers Custom Center console in the works. will house an NVX NSW10" https://m.facebook.com/WinnsCustomCarAudio/

jk13
We used MTI boards for years. The switcher panels behind the display are a bunch of mini relay switching boards. As you change to a different unit it has to disconnect the other. To do this with standard 5-prong Bosch type relays would be a very large project physically, but it is possible if you can figure out the trigger relays. All amps and HU were constantly powered off the power supply/battery bank so you are only switching RCA inputs and speaker outputs (simultaneously). That means 8 relays per amp (4 in, 4 out), 4 per speaker pair, and 4 per HU, plus the trigger relays to switch them all at once and disconnect the other... Contact Audio Authority and ask them questions directly, otherwise search for used AA or MTI displays. It would be much easier to use a pre-built unit. Unfortunately ours were sold or repurposed years ago. Static drops are my bag.
