Having problems with sub and amp

Recommended Posts

I have just bought a new skar audio 1500.1 monoblock  amp to run my kicker l7 15 @ 1 ohm. The amp goes into protect. Have the big 3 done in 0 gauge. And have 4 gauge from the battery to the amp. Other than that stock alternator and battery. Ran into the same problem using a Rockford fosgate prime 1200.1 amp running this sub and same thing happened so I bought a new amp but now the skar is doing the same thing

I wonder that myself, 3vil. People buy a new amp then cheap out on the suggested power/ground for the amp, getting smaller sized gauge. It will strain the amp and "limit" its output. Ditch the 4 gauge, get you some 0 gauge. Your amp will thank ya and the ground thing is a must check. Bare metal to metal. Would like to know what the spray is used to spray over a fresh scraped grounding point to prevent rust/corrosion. Seen it on Youtube, cannot for the life of me find that vid again.

Where is your amp ground in relation to the car. A seatbelt bolt, shock tower bolt, or something like that? You said your last amp had the same issue, did it ever work in this car or was it also going into protect as soon as it was installed?

Check your ground. What does voltage read at the amp inputs?  Shitty ground will show less voltage than what battery reads normally. Easy to see. Two amps on same driver fucking up!?!?  Ohm out the coil on the driver. Impedance could be throwing every amp you hook up to it into protect. All, easy to see with a meter.

It's playing now but it's not very loud checked the ground. Sanded to bare metal again and tightens the battery terminals under the hood. It plays just doesn't play like 1500 watts to me

that amp is a one channel, is there any reason you chose the outer speaker terminals?  are your rcas plugged into the sub out on your radio?  is the radio sub out turned on?  what ohm load do you see at the terminal on the sub box?

Is that a hammered on ring terminal on your ground cable? Cable could have a bad connection because of that. Get some hydraulic crimpers and put copper lugs on there. Also find a different grounding point. Seat bolts are shitty.
