Wishuponasub
http://www.ebay.com/itm/302336617415 JY Power says these are a good buy. Anyways, check it out and make your own decision. I have mine on the way already. They wont budge much on the price. WalledSonic
Im concerned about the charge rate on these cells listed as 18A max. I contacted K2 am awaiting response. JY Power uses cells with a higher allowable charge & discharge rate, but they dont have a K2 labeled spec sheet like is shown on the link above. I'll post back information when I get a response from K2. WalledSonic
Just got off the phone with Cameron from K2. Some information: - JYP cells are manufactured by K2. Many of us know this, but it must be stated again for those reading. - K2 cells are constructed of 26650 cells and are NOT prismatic. - He thinks the vendor bought those cells 7 years ago, but he's not 100%. If so, we should make sure they are functioning when they arrive so that we can file a claim if the product is defective. Although, if kept in good condition (as stated on the ad), then they may still be good. - The 73Ah cells have a posted charge rate of 18A or less. He said these modules are good for around 70A each (so 280ish Amps for a pack of 4). Im not sure why they post 18A if they are good for more. I believe it has to do with application. My best guess is that its hard to guarantee 'X' amount of recharge cycles when the charge rate is extremely high. In my application, I dont ever drain below 12.0V with AGM, so I'm not worried about how many deep charge cycles they can endure. - K2 cells dont have a problem with thermal runaway, so even though the internal resistance (IR) is higher than the JYP 79Ah cells, the batteries should be safe even at high charge rates. The IR is a proprietary piece of data, so he wouldnt share that value. I was hoping to compare the lithium IR to the IR of an AGM. If they're about the same, then not much of a problem for the price. Many of us going to lithium will still have an AGM under the hood. - If it werent for this ebay deal, Cameron recommends to call JYP for batteries (instead of directly to K2) because their modules are best suited for the audio industry and they offer great prices and the same warranty as K2. K2 is more tuned to the renewable energy and industrial markets. JYP has done their diligence to help specify cells that are more power oriented (higher charge/discharge rates) than energy oriented. I bought some. When they arrive I'll post some measured data. I'd like to measure internal resistance and voltage. Keep in mind, lithium cells need to be charged before installing in a car since the charge draw MAY be stressful to the charging system. hdorre
One major point to consider is that these use Power Series cells, vs the Ultra Power Series cells that current JY batts use. Furthermore, youre stuck with 6 year old weaker cells (comparable to a new JY 45 iirc), no CS, and no straps (JY sells 'em for about $35. I have an extra set, theyre niceee). I was going to post this when I first saw the thread, but figured id wait until JY was mentioned.
