i did notice there is play in the rotor, i can wiggle it back and forth about a 1/8 to 1/4". Hear these have issues with worn distributor gears. maybe?

Sounds like the bushing in the top of the distributor is worn out. I had a points fired v8 one time with worn bushings and it ran like crap until I replaced the distributor. The dwell was all over the place. I am not sure how bad it would effect an electronic distributor but it can't be good. After this I would clean the injectors.

im thinking maybe burnt valve. Gonna test that tomorrow. If that is the case i will just rebuild the whole engine as it has 200k miles on it anyway.

There should be No reason for a full rebuild on that 4.3 at 200k, i have one with 500k on it thats had no manor engine repairs that still runs strong, start with the simple stuff.

You already naned one of the common things on those to cause that issue(distributor gear),

antoher simple one that will cause misfires is the fuel pressure regulator.

What brand of cap, rotor, wires, and plugs did you use?

those engines are really picky about that stuff, id only use ac delco cap, rotor, and wires.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.
