Bored Cardboard Build

Hey guys, so I got bored tonight and decided to get this sub I have laying around playing in a goofy temporary box until I actually build the QWTL for it. I've turned the cardboard box it came in into a subwoofer enclosure. I need to do some testing and tweaking to get it sounding a bit better but it's actually turning out to be better than I expected. Currently it's net volume is roughly .32 ft3. I'm experimenting with a port but need to add some more volume in order to get it to have any decent output with the port. The driver I'm using is the Dayton Audio Classic 10" 4ohm SVC (https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-dcs255-4-10-classic-subwoofer-4-ohm--295-202#lblProductQ&A). I've taken some pictures along the way but I don't feel like uploading them tonight so hopefully I'll get around to it tomorrow. Hopefully tomorrow I can find a way to increase the volume of the box as well as add some more bracing.

Disclaimer: Before anyone says it, I know that this isn't an optimal or even really usable enclosure. This is purely for fun and laughs. I do not recommend anyone trying this seriously as it will probably result in damage to equipment. I'm not putting a whole lot of power to this and am watching it pretty closely.

How floppy does the cardboard get? lol

Considering it's not a very high powered sub that doesn't move a ton of air, not too floppy. I'm adding bracing to help stiffen it up a bit. Just have to reduce vibrations between panels. The box is actually fairly rigid considering what it is.

This is the box before any modifications were done to it.

I'm using this fairly thick eraser to help stand off the piece that the sub rests on to give me a bit more volume and allow the pole vent to breath a bit more. I had two of them so I cut them in half to have one for each corner.

I cut the flaps off of the box in order to adhere them to the side of the box, this helps stiffen the walls (I realized after cutting them that I could've just left them on and it would've been the same...oh well)

I tapped them on and put the insert back into the box. I added tape to the edges of the insert to help seal it off. This blue tape is really shitty so I have to use a lot of it. I plan on going back over it with some duct tape once i'm finished with it.

This is how I wired the the sub. Putting the wires through the mounting hole allowed me to put the sub into the insert without worrying about pinching the wire.

Sooo, I messed up and the eraser stand offs were just ever so slightly shorter than the original two pieces of cardboard that were at the bottom that allow the sub to rest on the insert without resting on the bottom of the box. So I put the inserts back in with the erasers. Always test fit before you seal off lol

So I finished it

But then I got the itch to make it ported 'cause why not. Using a toilet paper roll as the port.

Drew the shape of the roll onto the box and proceed to crudely cut it

Taped off the cut so there was no leakage.

Reinforced the roll with some tape. Surprisingly effective.

I taped the roll onto the outside of the box and did my best to seal it.

That's all I got for now. I did some modeling last night and found a pretty decent layout I could do. Need a larger/longer port but i'll figure it out.
