Good Lord. With all those batteries I'm wondering when the 2 -10 Or 12k amps are showing up?

Gonna put the K2 battery in my buddy's JK.  So now I'm working with 3 banks of new JY lithium.  :)

Running two 5Ks at 0.5 ohm each is equivalent on the electrical system to one 10K at 0.5 ohm.  Thats some serious current draw.  This single alternator is gonna be putting in werk but the lithium bank will be my trusty cushion.

Running 2 5ks at 0.5ohm each would be the equivalent of running a 10k at 0.5ohm, not 0.25.  If you were running a pair of strapped 5.0ks at 0.5ohm then it would be like a 10k at 0.25ohm.  Just for the record.

Either way, your electrical is on point! Keep up the good work!

Thanks man!

I will have (2) parallel 0.5ohm draws from the electrical.  The electrical system will dump current into the pair of amps as if I was running a single 10K at 0.25ohm since each 5K is drawing from the main bus at 0.5ohm each... in parallel.

I disagree, it doesn't work like that.  For illustration and simplicity's sake, let's pretend your 5ks are seeing 1ohm each. We'll use DC Audio for example. A single 5.0k at 1 ohm can put out 5,000w.  Lets assume at 5,000w it will pull a maximum of 500a (at 14.4v) from your electrical as evidenced by the fuse rating:

2 of them would pull 1000 amps.  Using that logic, a 10k should pull the same amount of current at 0.5 ohm and therefore be fused lower than 1000a if rated at 1 ohm, but it isn't. It's rated at 1ohm and requires 1000a of fusing.

The only time you'd see the situation that you're describing is if you were running 2 5ks strapped at .5ohm. Each would be seeing 0.25 ohm making them pull current comparable to a single 10k at 0.25.  The only thing on the electrical (input) side of the amp that is effected by nominal impedance on the output side is efficiency of the amp, which wiring down could potentially make it draw more current if wired lower.  Having the power to the amps wired in parallel has nothing to do with the load your amp is seeing. 2 5ks at 1 ohm each will pull the same as a 10k at 1 ohm (I'm generalizing for illustration purposes obviously).

Hope this makes sense.

Yeah i drew a poor comparison.  In the end, the amplifiers just draw a lot of DC current from the bank based on whatever AC output the amp makes when wired down.  If I had a 10K amp, I would only be able to wire down to 0.2 or 0.8.  With 2 separate amps, I'm able to wire each at half, which is easier on the amps than running a big board at 0.2.  Thanks for the input.

Damplifier Pro finished on the passenger half of the car.  Still need to do the driver half, shifter hump, and some other random spots

Trying to figure out how I want to lay out the fuse blocks

Also have a couple other projects that arent yet ready for prime time

  • 2 weeks later...

Decided that the lithium bank may need some cooling

The box directs air to the channel behind the lithium bank.

37517693814_af1241e7bc_b.jpg

Gonna attach some plexi on the outer edges of the bank so that the fan will push air from the back thru the front of the bank

37517695024_fc8b0d2718_b.jpg

Started the fuse block.  Decided to keep it light as possible, so I cut some material out

Mock up

4/0 copper fuse blocks are so heavy.  Ended up adding a mounting flange on the bottom and support the panel as strong as possible

Gonna start staining all this stuff tomorrow.  Almost painted it white and called it a day, but I cant miss an opportunity to show off all this wood.

looking good, just make sure to put a switch on that fan. Otherwise you will be able to hear it through your box.

Picked up some parts for the amp rack.  Got them cut for cheap at a local waterjet cutter.  Stainless.

38196668032_11461ef17d_b.jpg

Had to touch everything up though, since he uses a draft angle to help release parts from the sheet after cutting.  A belt sander and countersink bit took care of bizness

38196649492_10c9ca5a37_b.jpg

Also drilled the feet out for M6 bolts

38196661302_c28b898aa8_b.jpg

Removed the dash this weekend to dampen everything.

38196666902_8e18d46c32_b.jpg

8 months of banging (4) 15s definitely loosened some bolts under the dash.  I made sure everything is tight now.

38196664822_1df4a8876a_b.jpg

Checked the windshield seam while I had the dash out.  Glue was laid in heavy when I had my neighbor repair the upper pinch seam!  Looks good still.

38196662572_24fa4f25c4_b.jpg

Second Skin gittins.  Everywhere I could add it under the dash, I did.

38196660192_d1218c29ef_b.jpg

38196655122_0754af67c8_b.jpg

Put the whole thing back together, and I missed a connection.  Had to take half of it back apart.  I had it installed like this:

38196648462_81b1335339_b.jpg

And about 1 beer can later, I had everything back together.

38196646932_5d829e31f3_b.jpg

Removed the wifi/bluetooth/OnStar module since I already removed the antennae for those devices

38196656262_6104a29d9e_b.jpg

And then finished the entire floor.  Fuck my shoulder is sore haha
