AlpineNut
1st lol OK but the main question is, is that one of GM's 12V or 14V alternators? My 2005 Silverado Alternator is 14V 145A~DC, so you must be showing a 12V~150A Alt, but still more power is always better, but even adding a 2nd battery helps also, and can also be alot less in price! Can i ask what the fuck your talking about ? Who would make a alt, charge at a level lower than battery rest? You can clearly see the thing is high 13's, even a 14 in there before he turns the accessories on. This is a test at low turn on rpm, and dragging it down, its not rocket science. The mechman clearly pushed its shit in. 1 Quote SMD SUPER SELLER The Burban Build Blazer Build sold Acura trunk build sold
meade916
there is no such a thing as a 3 hours ago, Jake Pace said: 1st lol OK but the main question is, is that one of GM's 12V or 14V alternators? LOL. I have no idea what in the heck you are talking about bro, no offense i don't think you do either. Sorry. No offense man! You are here to learn. FYI: Almost all GM Alternators can be whatever voltage you want them to be depending on how you have them regulated. A stock alternator doesn't charge at 12v. When your vehicle is running it should be high 13's to mid 14's. A lot of newer cars are regulated to back off the voltage and put out low 13's once the battery is charged, or even shut off all the way until it senses needing to be charged. When it kicks back on it should typically be high 13's to mid 14's (for GM's) again. But an aftermarket High Output alternator, like the ones in this video, usually should charge at 14v (or more) just being on. That is standard. The only time you see 12v is when your car is OFF. Also, if you run all of those accessories at the same time, a 2nd battery is not going to help. It is just going to die too and now you have 2 deeply discharged batteries for the alternator to charge/maintain. Now your stock alternator is stressed out and will have a much shorter life. A stout alternator that can handle everything you have AND keep the battery happy is key. Not putting more of a load on the already struggling alternator. AlpineNut
I called and asked 2 Chevy dealerships an they both told me the same thing my truck has a 14V~DC 145A Alternator stock, and i run the fog lights the fan and the headlights and what ever else and never usually dip below 13v and that is with 2 batteries! But i also did the Big 4 upgrade which is probably why it never gets to below 13 or so.
