tony187soundproof
I have had my sundown 15 sa dvc 2om for almost a year now. I pushed it to hard a few times and it starts to get to stinking a lil bit.i got my audiopipe 1000 amp dialed in with my smd dd1and I know my max volume on my head unit. I know that sometimes I can get bass knob happy and I shouldn't do that but I like when the bass goes BOOM.my question is am I shortening the life of my sub by pushing it to the point of smelleness. ChevyBoy95
Yes you could. Most often the smelliness is the adhesive on the coil fuming off. The more fumes off the coil, the less adhesive you have holding the windings on.... When you get subs too hot where all the adhesive burns off, you slinky the coil. ShadeTreeMechanic
I bang on mine every day and when they get stinky I turn it down a little bit. lol I know that eventually one day I will lose a coil. It has been almost two years and most of it has been over double the rated power. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
DeeZer
It's not unusual to get that smell especially if the temperature gets high
