Putting in 2 extra batteries?

Recommended Posts

Do I have this correct? (refer to attached diagram)

I will be putting in 2 XS Power D5100 batteries to help feed my Sundown SCV-4000D (running 1 ZV5 12)
Up front I have a D3400 + a 260A Singer Alternator.. Big three has been done (fused between alt and batt), and 2/0 AWG cabling runs from the front to the trunk. All 100% OFC.

Will I need to run a ground from the rear bank back to the front batt? Or should I be fine running ground to chassis as long as it's a good ground?

A 260A alt should't have any issues keeping up the extra batteries should it? I don't slam my sounds 24/7, but only for about 15-25% of the time while cruising so there should be plenty of time for charging while driving.

Just want to verify that i have everything proper on paper before I get to installing it.

How close are the back 2 batteries? I would consider fusing between those depending on how far apart they are. I think 4K is close to the point where a dedicated ground becomes helpful.

They are right next to each other. The run between them is very short.

Now, I have a single run of 2/0 going to the back from the front battery, should that be enough? Then starting at the 1st battery in the back I have a dual run going on and into the amp using a dual input adapter.

The grounding point that I chose is pretty good so far, but will definitely consider the run to the front if needed.

I wouldn’t worry about fuse between the batteries then. Single run might be enough, get a good voltage meter and see. If it drops too much you made need another run!

It depends on the vehicle. I have teammates that have tested it (guys clamping 30k+ & 10k+) and adding full length grounds gained them nothing over their frame grounds.

Truck/SUV with a real frame or a unibody car?

OP mentioned 'trunk' so i'd assume unibody car. D'Amore and Candella did the ground test in a unibody and mentioned that a single run of 1/0 had more voltage drop than the unibody, but a second run would result in less voltage drop than the unibody (in the case if the test car, a nissan altima i believe)

OP if you have a frame ground to that as close as you can to the batts.

This is audio, more of something isn't going to hurt. You will not have any issues if you ground to frame and front to back.

I personally like the idea of tying all of your electrical components directly together with a run front to back but that's just my OCD. I don't think that if you have a true frame you'll notice any difference
