Grounds should be near battery. If you don't know if the part you want to ground to is good or not you can use a volt meter to check continuity with + probe on battery + and - probe where you want to ground. Once you know the part you chose connects to the battery now turn to your resistance setting on your multi meter ( measured in ohms ) and look to make sure it's less than .3 try to get lower if you can. I used where my stock wires grounded in my Civic and it works great but they're less than a foot away already.
