Question about using different voice coils

So I have two subzeros both needed a recone; we had both the kits sitting at my work so I did one and fucked it up because of inexperience. But after a little practice I got the second one to work and it was dual 1 ohm. so I emailed Earthquake and they no longer make or have dual 1 ohm voice coils. so my question is can I run a Dual 1 ohm sub in series @ 2 and a dual 4 ohm sub in parallel @ 2, then parallel both together to get 1 ohm? and can i use these subs in the same box?

I would say yes as long as your getting the total resistance of 1 ohm at the amp so you have no issues there and yes you could use them in the same box.

With different T/S Parameters it could cause problems, I would not put them in the same box.

Hey man, since you already have the experience, why not just buy two new recones and redo them both?

If you are gonna have to recone both which might end up happening might wanna just try them out see what happens just as long as you keep the one ohm load to run your amp safely.

Different subs will act differently in the same enclosure.

well because im on a very tight budget.

i was planning on building the box with the port running down the center so i dont know if this would be considered separate chambers with a shared port?

Give it a shot man.  It may work out well enough for what you're doing.

However, think of it like this:

If you put one type of shock/spring on your front driver's wheel, and then a different type of shock/spring on your front passenger wheel, do you think the car will handle evenly like stock?  No. 

Will you make it to work in the morning?  Probably, but you may not have optimum handling along the way.

yea i realize what im doing. im just way to excited about these subs to wait any longer haha i've been staring at these things for 3 years now. its not like im gonna be trying to get numbers from them its just gonna be a daily driver. But i do have about 6 motors from these guys so later down the road i wanna buy 4 15" baskets and soft parts and put them in my Hatchback.

That is one box. You would need to have a divider down the middle of the port for it to be 2 separate chambers.

 

Why not just run the one until you can afford to recone both.
