3m product for exterior vinyl wrapping?

Recommended Posts

Do you guys know which product line is suitable for exterior of a car? I wanted to carbon fiber fill in the GMC logo on the front of my wife's sierra, and I want to wrap the chrome trim around the windows on my taurus SHO.  I wanted to use the 3m products but not sure which is most appropriate, if anyone knew I'd appreciate it

I used some generic tinted vinyl wrap (non-3M, ebay special) on my Chevy logos and they have lasted about 2 years, still going.  I also used the same stuff on all my chrome and it lasted about 1 year.  I used goo-gone and removed the old stuff in less than 10 minutes.  This is in Houston with really brutal sun exposure.

If you dont mind spending 20 minutes cleaning and re-wrapping every few years, you can use almost any brand.  I would suspect 3M is even better than what I used.

Tuned in for other responses.

EDIT:

Here's the rear bar and logo when I first laid it on:

And if it starts degrading, use this to remove the adhesive:

Post some pics when you get it done.

  • 1 year later...

3M's 1080 line is what you want.  Done correctly you can expect the film to last 5+ years.  Another great film to try is Vvivid.  I've used both of the films to wrap the roof, tailgate, hood and grille of my 2018 F150 and have to say, I was more than impressed with the Vvivid line.
