Box too deep? Fi SSD NEO 18

Hey box design brainiacs,

Working on box design for Fi SSD NEO 18 ( http://www.ficaraudio.com/product/ssd-neo-18/ ) to run on DD M1c (1,400 watts - ish) in my truck. Still working on tuning but after sub, bracing, and port displacement I'll be sitting at about 7.1ft^3 net (8.49 gross). I'm thinking 112 in^2 port area tuned to 33 hz (but very open to suggestions on port area).  I had to crop out some box dimensions so I could upload the image: height= 30" depth=34" width =19". Sub 9.5" deep, port 20-23" deep The cutout on bottom of box is 7" high and 12.50" wide. Sub and port firing up.

I am wondering if the design will be OK or if the port placement will have some ill-effect on port velocity? The box will be oriented with the sub closest the back of the cab and the port close to the front passenger seat. Can anyone provide me confirmation or guidance? Thanks!

Here is the Torres.. Enough port area? Also, I have less volume than I thought after having to add some port length. I can probably recover some by extending my port out of the box a few inches.

Based on the amount of power you want to run, you should be fine with that 11" round port.  If possible I like to flare the ends of round ports some.  There are several ways you can do that.  Extending your port out of the box a bit wouldn't hurt, but the increased net volume it gains you isn't going to make a noticeable difference in output.

Thanks for the input once again. Now that you've seen my box plan do you think I should go with the 15 instead of 18? Second guessing my choice a bit. Also, I'll be tuned in (pardon the pun) to see what you do with yours!

Oh I think you are totally fine with the 18" and using it would be my preference over the 15".

  • 2 weeks later...

Hey y'all

I decided to switch from the 18" to the 15" SSD Neo to save room in the truck. Below is the updated design and Torres... Does anyone have any input on the interior placement of the port? I am wondering if the lip the port makes over the bottom part of the box will create any issues ( I am guessing not but just want to make sure) .. I am trying to avoid having the port in the front of the box.

All input appreciated - thanks

I have tried to model this in winISD but don't think I am getting accurate results.. so if anyone has some free time I would love to see what you can come up on that software - or any other in-fact

Thanks

Whats the net volume, tuning frequency, and how much power are you running?

Did the Torres screenshot not upload? Its 3.78 net tuned to 33.4 hz with 59 in^2 of port area Thanks. DD M1c rated at 1500watts so 1,300 - 1,400 realistically.

Here is the raw frequency response, keep in mind cabin gain will change this significantly:

And here is the port velocity:

Both of those graphs look great to me.
