When laid properly its insanely strong, strong enough that most speedboats, jetboats, jetskis, fishing boats, cabin cruisers, yachts are all made out of fiberglass (granted some boats are made out of aluminum, and cruise ships and barges are mostly steel but you get  the idea).

A lot of Semis have fiberglassed parts such as their hoods, race car bodies, and so on.

So you shouldnt have an issue with speaker pods not being strong, your main concern would be where the door panel meets the pod since fiberglass dont really bond with plastic.

So what would be the best way to make it bond to the plastic i have uploaded a photo of where i will be laying the fleece and stapling it could you see a problem with my positioning?

Did the hot glue stick well?  Curious, because even though the PL helped fill voids and definitely decreased rattles, it didnt adhere to the surfaces well so I would use something different in the future.  The expanding foam worked great though.

Hot glue sucks most of the time in my experience other than just stabilizing, for adding real strength (fleece and resin then fiberglass). It "sticks" but any real side pressure it pops off, for better adhesion, sanding a bit with epoxy (ca glue) works pretty well.

Good info man.

In my situation i was trying to squirt it into the crevices where the door panel pieces were plastic-welded from the factory. So sanding isnt possible. Hoping to find something that bonds straight to plastic as is.

Once it's all been resined fiber glassed and filled surely it own't pop off (i am new to making pods these are my first ones sorry for all the questions)

If the material is wrapped around the edge, it wont pop off. But ANYWHERE resin contacts OEM plastics, sand it if possible, or even put tiny holes to let the resin grab into, because resin wont adhere to smooth surfaces. It will seem like it, but any twisting or anything (which happens as you drive around and the vehicle twists a bit) it will separate.

  • 2 weeks later...

Guy's got a slight problem was stapling my fleece on my door's today and have come up with a problem near my 8'' pod i can't get the stapler close enough to the plastic door panel to create my line so was thinking about drilling some holes and tieing some wire to keep the line a little bit like stiching as i can't staple it closer otherwise it will hit the dashboard panel do you think this will work or if any of you have any other ideas for fixing the fleece to the door panels?
