Glue cracking at former/spider

more info would help get a diagnosis like brand/model & amplifier

Well then that crosses that out. 

Could you have been bottoming out the sub at all?

possibly the coil hitting the back plate, pushing it up and to pull away from the spiders. Making a stress point and crack. 

Or the glue may not have set correctly. Any air bubbles in the bead would cause for a weak point.

Does the person who built it know about this and have a possible explanation?

No it happened on 6. I noticed today that 2 dust caps blew off leaving 2 giant holes in my box essentially so maybe that decreased the pressure and the subs moved more but they never bottomed out that i heard. i can take a pic of the bottom of the voice coil. The subs are also a year apart in age and it happened to all of them new and old. He didn't know why it happened but i found pieces of glue that were 180 degrees of the 4 inch voice coil as one piece on top of the box from multiple subs so huge chunks of glue. i didn't see air bubbles.
