vroom
Howdy. Been out of car audio for a while. Dont have much experience with all these class d 1ohm load amps, is this now a safe setup for daily driven/ listening vehicles? Reason for asking is im looking at maybe buying a DD audio mono amp to run my subs. It appears they have massive power but are all rated at 1ohm? I currently have 2 PPi a1200 amps but they take up alot of room and originally was going to make the switch to US Amps 2000x or something, but then noticed these DD amps. Any advice? Wishuponasub
I don't know what DD amp you are referring to but yes 1 ohm is a thing now. I'm sitting at .7 Right now. The amp should tell you what it's stable at. That's for warranty purposes honestly. I wouldn't hesitate to run one lower (way lower) lol. slowfkncar
Ive had nothing but good experiences with dd & aq amps, those ppi 1200.2's would also make a nice setup for a high powered front stage. Im guessing your stuck at 2 ohms with both woofers? A dd m5 would probably fix you up Are you selling the a1200.2's?
vroom
Yeah will prob sell them. Considering moving over to DD audio if they are as good as everyone says
vroom
Ive always been under the rule that the lower the impedance the higher the distortion and less dampening?? Is that still correct with these new new gen amps?
reedal
Wiring at a lower DCR will be less efficient, have less damping (not dampening), and requires more current to be drawn from the electrical supply due to less efficiency than at a higher load. The fidelity is not affected by wiring lower. vroom
Yeah sorry im on my phone with auto correct. Anyhow, so running a 1ohm load amp will put more load on my electrical system? Will a high output alternator do the trick?
Wishuponasub
We need more info bud. What amp/amps, wattage, stock alt amps? But yeah a good high output alt and battery reserve is how you supply power. Masterbasser
dd audio crushes, I have a couple of the dd m5s in my foxbody mustang, and I'm putting 4 in my Yukon xl REAL soon here, do not hesitate to buy them, expensive as hell from a dealer though, got all mine used Kenwood excelon ddx795 3 370 amp CES alternators (audio side only) McLaren dome tweeters Crescendo 6.5 ultra neos NVX JAD800.4 4 PA x4 SPL 18's 4 Digital Designs m5's at .7 ohms each 2 K2 80 ah lithiums 3 group 31 agms Ledglow million color (12 piece) 2007 Yukon xl
slowfkncar
Watt for watt, a DD m5 at 2ohms would be much more efficient vs two bridged old school A/B's. You should have had some kind of beefed up electrical with those two 1200.2's, consider a HO alt with an m5 especially if wired down to 1ohm.
