nvx newb
Hey guys my name is Zach Ive been a fan of Steve Meade for quite a few years now and just recently came across the SMD forums and I love the site. Plenty of information here I come and check the site out while at work on a weekly basis. A while back I decided to wire up a system in my old nissan and it bumped I was so excited not only cause I did it myself but I also saved some $$. More recently I purchased a 2015 Chevy Malibu and decided to upgrade a bit so I ditched the old Sony XPLODs and went with 2 NVX VCW 122. Also obtained 2 power acoustik edge 4500d amps. (2200 amps RMS each.) I ran 0 gauge from the battery back to a 2 Farad Cap and 4 gauge power cable to each amp. 0 gauge wire grounding the cap and 4 gauge grounding each amp. I decided to go a little crazy and wire each sub to 1ohm in order to get as much power as i could from these amps. Long story short I keep having an issue with the 0 gauge coming from the battery getting way too hot. Hot to the point that at the fuse under the hood the wire insulation begins to melt right after the fuse. Ive checked everything I can think about. From grounds to checking for pinched wire and Im out of ideas and I really dont want to burn down my car ! I need a little insight from someone who has more knowledge than me on this. Im 24 and too broke to take it to a shop and drop hundreds of dollars. With all that said I appreciate any feedback and criticism. Thank You
SkarredSierra
First off how big is your fuse? Second wat brand wire you running?
nvx newb
Okay right off the bat.... it was a cheap kit..https://www.amazon.com/Soundquest-SQK0-CCA-Gauge-Wiring/dp/B001F5YS1G Soundquest and it comes with a 150a fuse
Broke_Audio_Addict
I think you already know the answer to your own question then. That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals. So lets say I had a decent wire kit installed.... with the amps and subs Im running would you say I needed more juice since the stock alt only gives 150 amps? I want to make sure that its not an issue with power causing the wire to get so hot? Being a broke audio addict yourself im sure you dont like wasting $
Broke_Audio_Addict
Anytime you're above 1500rms an upgraded alt isnt a bad idea. If you're at 4krms (just assuming those amps do rated, they probably dont though) then you should for sure consider one. And if not then you need to add more battery. At the very least you need to upgrade all that cheap wiring and spend the money on some legit 1/0 ofc wire. The wiring is the veins og the system, if you cheap out here the whole system dies, and possibly the car too if it gets hot enough to start a fire, which it can. And make sure all your connections are solid as well, a loose connection will cause resistance which equals more heat. Dont let the name fool you, I waste plenty of money, thats why I'm broke, lmfao. nvx newb
Hahaha love it. Thanks for letting me know your opinion I'm gonna take that into serious consideration. Already checked out the NVX 1/0 kit. And about the alt I haven't been able to find an upgrade for this one. In your opinion would it be a good move to add a second battery and charge both off the stock alt? Ive realized lately that this car isn't ideal for adding a lot of power considering the fact no one makes an upgraded alt... ? I just drove home and blasted it the whole way and just found out the wire coming from the battery to the fuse is okay but right after the fuse it's hot af so I pulled up the carpet where I have it going thru the firewall and all was fine so it seems to be right there after the fuse it's burning up so..... it looks like this weekend I will be crimping some more big ass terminals and hoping for the best
SkarredSierra
You should also look into knukonceptz. They make great wire and rcas. Thats 400 amps of fusing on those 2 amps. Being as they are cheaply made id say they pull that current but create little power. Id say 2 runs of 0 gauge ofc with an upgraded front batt and secondary rear batt along with upgraded 0 gauge alt wires or big 3. That should help alot but theres no substituting for a high output alt. If it was me id also look at other amps. Skar, soundqubed, and orion all make budget friendly powerhouse amps. If your wantn to save you could use cca wire instead of ofc.

Could happen while your going 70 on the high way... I hope you keep a 10 mil in your glove box for your battery posts because you should!! Be careful man. What is probably happening is that wire you have is not even safe for the fuse it comes with... so the fuse isn't blowing but heating up the wire almost to its limit. Also one thing I thought about is the placement of the wire could contribute to the temperature you are feeling. Make sure your away from any heat sources! I wrap all my wire in plastic loom for extra peace at mind.
