Bret
I figured a spectrum analyzer would be a good way to find out what bass frequencies are in some of my music. I downloaded a Windows program today and added a spectrum analysis plugin and got it running. Its fun to play with the real time analysis, you can limit the display to a frequency band, which is what I was hoping for. This is my first attempt at doing this sort of thing so I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but the graph looks like a smooth rolling hill and doesn't move much when the bass line hits. I suppose it might have to do with the sample rate or maybe its averaging or maybe that's normal, I have no idea. There are quite a few settings. Just wanted to find out what you all use to figure out the frequencies of bass notes. One track I'm trying to analyze: E-40 The D-Boy Diary Check This track really exposes how poorly I have my system set up. The peaks and valleys are extreme on my system. Another: E-40 Sharp on all Corners Jumpin' Like Mine This plays pretty well but the lowest bass note is too quiet. I realize there is a thread for posting songs you want people to analyze but I'm more interested in learning how to do it myself. Thanks for reading. Bret
I'll try using a frequency analyzer on my phone with test tones instead. I'm getting nowhere fast with trying to analyze my source files with software.
