k58.cross Posted December 4, 2018 Report Share Posted December 4, 2018 Hey all, I have only been using this new HO alt for about a month and it's whining badly already. It's gonna be sent back in to Iraggi, but I have a question for you. Can doing the big 3 cause the alternator to overcharge in any way? My car is a Ford and it's just a single exciter wire going into the alt. I added extra wires onto the B+ (with fuse), alt case to B-, and B- to frame. I recently installed a 2nd amp and was measuring my current draw into the distro block at max volume that I set the gains at - 200A. Watched voltage both at idle and 2.5kRPM, voltage held tight at 2.5k and expectedly dropped at idle but I didn't let it drop past 12V before stopping the audio test. The alt is a 260A. It seems like the alt is defective...is there anything I did there that could have caused the issue? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
