3 way front stage placement

I have a 98 Blazer, active 3 way front stage and have new door panels for it. The panels in it were shitty when I got it so I didn't.hesitate to cut holes in them. Now I have new ones and don't want to.cut them because they actually look nice.  Plan was to put 6.5s in Stock location, and either my 4" mid or 3" woofer in dash location where the factory 4x6s went.  Don't think I can squeeze both into that spot cause of the depth and I'm worried about it not having enough separation of sound like that anyways.  Also thinking of maybe getting some smaller tweeters but worried about them sounding different.  My ds18 4" mids r way harsh sounding above 2k hz and I don't think smaller tweeters will fill the gap my ds18 tw110 do. Long story short, if it was your vehicle where would u want speakers placed? Rather tweeters be aiming at windshield in dash or the 4" aiming at windshield and possibly build a pod for the tweeters?  Pods for both 4" and 3", there are almost same size speakers so pods would be huge and I  think it'd mess with being able to see my peripheral. My profile pic has my.current setup, may even consider making a pod to put them back in current spot but have a few screw holes instead of sinking them.into my doors.

Haven't played with positions yet, wanted to get ideas before I start moving speakers around, some ppl have had to already done what I'm trying to do so was hoping for experienced opinions. And my front stage is retarded loud, but is super clear amd honestly don't know how it would sound facing me yet

I would play with positioning. Have you thought about using the kick panels and facing them toward you from down low. Some SQ cars have there mids & highs set up like that. Just a thought.

Can't do kick pods because if snow and slush, my floor mats are always full of water because of it. My truck is technically a "work truck" still lol. Gonna play with placement and see what I come up with.

  • 4 weeks later...

I know a bit of an old topic but wanted to chime in.

Having the drivers as close together is ideal. Separation of sound is not a good thing unless you like hearing the different frequencies in different locations. If you have a DSP then it is less of an issue as you can time align. If the midrange cannot cannot play above 2k they are petty useless and going with a smaller tweeter will not be a good idea as it will be pretty hard to find one that can play down that low cleanly.

I have an eq and an electronic xover. I moved my speakers everywhere and where they are grouped in the door seem to sound the best. I keep my headunit eq flat, no loudness, or anyother boost of anykind and basically my eq curve would be like a big "U" and my mids r almost painfull if i get to the higher clean limits of my volume.  Ur definantly right tho, keeping speakers grouped keeps the sound alot more balanced, which is why i put them where i did in the first place. Im juat going to shape some mdf and make a 3/4" thick mounting plate and glass it and leave em where they r at i think.
