Recommended Posts

5145 strands of 1/0 CCA vs 4704 Strands of Tinned OFC 15’ long. 3’ Grounds. A 2500 watt B2 Audio amp. Think there will be a difference? How much power loss over just 15’ feet would be acceptable to you (if there was any)? Ill have results up soon.

I’m hoping 10 -15 watts but I’m guessing it’s gonna be more.

Does that drop off stay relative across all sizes of wire?  So if it's 12% on the 1/0 is that also the case on 4 or 8 gauge, or does it even get worse with smaller wires?  I don't know enough about this to have a good guess.  I should ask my electrical engineer brother...

Well how about that! Thanks for doing this video, I would be upset if I lost 300+ watts over a simple wire swap.

You need to sticky this so all the noobs will quit asking about CCA wire

The same holds true for electrical, if you run aluminum instead of copper you have to upsize your wire for the same capacity.

Voltage drop is caused by resistance of the conducting material, so if you have the resistance of the wire you are using you can calculate what the voltage drop will be. There are calculators online if you need actual numbers.

You thought MY test was an eye opener? watch this one. Garry Springgay of Cogent Audio Labs made this video a while back. The 300 watt loss, as predicted, would probably be a LOT more once you actually use it in your car. It's downright a fire hazard if you ask me.
