Can I run from alternator to trunk battery?

Recommended Posts

The alt is the ultimate source of power for your equipment. The shorter runs / fewer connections you can make in the process, the less your voltage loss due to resistance.

It's important to consider where your fuses are when wiring in this manner.

Thanks for reply SnowDrift yet im still a little confused bc you saying fewer connections the better but shouldn't extra wire create less resistance so it's not cramped up in one wire that's gonna be pushed to its limits at around 3300 watts?

Current flow wiring to front battery:

Alt -> Fuse -> Battery -> Fuse -> Fuse -> Rear Battery -> Fuse -> Amp -> Ground Path

Current flow wiring to alt

Alt -> Fuse -> Rear Battery -> Fuse -> Amp -> Ground Path
Note: Your connection between alt and front battery should be fused and would cover the wire coming off the alt going to the rear. The alternator is not a fusible item as current stops when it stops turning. It's not included in this current path because as this is written with the premise that the alt is the ultimate power source for your system

According to old school competition rules, you must have a fuse within 18” from a battery. Wire from the fuse to the battery must be no longer than the length of the battery.

Do not over fuse. Run smallest fuse possible to let system operate.

The ideal place under the hood IS the Alternator for running wire to rear mounted batteries.

hope this helps.
