4 hds2.108 port area / aeroport recomendation

Recommended Posts

Going to use 4 hds2.108s in 2 cubes on 3k. Want to use areoports if possible but can't really find any definant answers on what size to use or how to figure out length to tune it. I am kind of limited to length of port, I want the port(s) to fire forward under my rear seat of my GMC 1500.  Roughly 10.5" max lenght . I was thinking of separating the sides( 1ft3each side after displacement of subs) if it makes it easier to port, but a single big ass port in the center  would be fine also. Box is going to be about 9" tall on the face down to roughly 6 in the rear, so I think a 6" port going to max diameter. Id like to be in the low 30s if I can.

2009 Silverado 1500, 7.5" lift, 37x12.50r17s, Built Gen 4 5.3L ( 4.8l flat pistons, decked 243s, SS2 Cam, Pac 1218 springs, ported intake, 120mm TB, Long tubes, 3" duals HP tuner software tuned by me), 4l80e swapped and 4.56 gears. All done by me. stereo is Pioneer avh 600ex, all stinger rca, jp23 v1.5, skar rp150.4, and hertz hpd4. 2 SHCA 6.5 8ohm, 1 SHCA 3.5", and 1 DS18 tw120pro in each door. The 3.5 mid and 3.5" tweeters are powered by the skar rp150.4, the 6.5s are powered by the hertz bridged @4 ohms. Dual runs   of 3/0 welding cable, 300a alternator, 2 Vmax AGMs up front. current sub is a AB XR 12 ( dual 2 ohm) with bottom spider cut out in 2.25 cubes at 32hz

I hate to bring you bad news, but putting 3k watts into a 2 cu ft enclosure is a LOT of power for that size of box.  To get three thousand watts of sound energy out of a box requires a significant amount of port area.  There is absolutely no way you are going to be able to make a port work that is only 10.5" long unless you want to tune your box to about 50 Hz.

These small, high powered, low tuned boxes are VERY difficult to design a well-functioning port for.  With the amount of power you are running you would ideally have around 50 sq in of port area to keep port velocity reasonable, however a port that size would have to be way, way too long to be feasible and would eat up all your net volume. In this situation compromises will have to be made.  Probably the best you are going to be able to do would be something around 35 - 40 sq in of port area, it will still have to be around 40+" long to tune to the low 30s and you will almost certainly still have an undesirable amount of port noise and compression, but that may just be the best you can do.

If you only have space for a 10.5 long port you will be better off leaving it sealed.

So after measuring AGAIN I am going to keep raising the seat to get whatever I need to make these work. Will 3 cubes work and net me 2 for the subs? Will side port and port can be at least 45"
