Pioneer avh-x4800bs or dsp?

Recommended Posts

Have a avh-p3200bt right now, should I get the better 4800bs with network mode and time alignment or get a dsp? Currently have pioneer m650pro mids and b350pro tweeters on a ppi ice 1000.4  currently using a passive xover but intend to go active using 1&2 on amp for tweeters and 3&4 on amp for mids. I don't know anything about pioneers time alignment and auto eq and not sure if it'll give me the results I want. I know a dsp will give me all the same tweaks and more but never had experience with one of those either. I know my h/u is old but it works great, does it's job well and can live with it if a dsp will benefit me more than a new unit. Budget is at roughly $200. Can get a factory refurb headunit for that. Like I said idc about the bigger screen or motorized face and even the Bluetooth as much as the network mode it boasts. I appreciate the advice

All done by me. stereo is Pioneer avh 600ex, all stinger rca, jp23 v1.5, skar rp150.4, and hertz hpd4. 2 SHCA 6.5 8ohm, 1 SHCA 3.5", and 1 DS18 tw120pro in each door. The 3.5 mid and 3.5" tweeters are powered by the skar rp150.4, the 6.5s are powered by the hertz bridged @4 ohms. Dual runs   of 3/0 welding cable, 300a alternator, 2 Vmax AGMs up front. current sub is a AB XR 12 ( dual 2 ohm) with bottom spider cut out in 2.25 cubes at 32hz

Have found a ppi dsp88r and a expert px8.2 connect in my price range. Those two stick out because I have all ppi amps and the other one has smart phone connect so I don't have to go through a crazy Atari looking setup screen like alot of the dsp look like they have on them with a dial, or I don't have to drag a laptop out to my truck to adjust stuff. Not sure of the ppi one, but I am only looking at that one because it matches my amps . I'm always playing with my eq so it's gotta be easily accessed, maybe a dedicated tablet in my truck or something would be ok even.

That's a lil much for what I need ( price isn't bad tho, just too many functions) I will only be running active 2 way fronts and sub. Chance is I'll never need digital inputs or outs and alot of extra channels , only possibly is maybe active 3 way upgrade in the future. I kinda like the idea of maybe keeping a tablet mounted somewhere hooked to it so I can adjust eq on the fly too...always playing with my eq

It's better to have more and not need it than need it and not have it

I need supervision tho! If it has 8 channel outs I'd just have to buy more amps and speakers to utilize em lol. I decided I want gonna modify panels in this truck and I now have 4 fresh holes in the doors and am thinking about pods over rear speaker locations to add at least 5.25 components. But ultimately you are right, I hate buying things that are useless on the next upgrade

I had terrible luck with the ppi and the cadence, which both seem very similar.  I know people hate jl, but I have had great luck with the twk's, and you can find them refurbished for reasonable prices.

I have no personal experience with them but the minidsp's are reasonably priced and seem to have a big following, also the one partsexpress came out with a year or so ago seems to be pretty decent, and very inexpensive (dayton maybe?).

How about the nakamichi nds4631a? Added benefit of having a built in amp if I decide to add kick pods with sq setup in it even. I'm kinda stuck with the want to have Bluetooth connection to adjust, especially a tablet with eq up all the time so it can be tweaked on the fly.

If it's anything like Nakamichi's headunits then I wouldn't even get close to it.

Haven't touched anything nakamichi in YEARS, last time I did it was top of the line stuff, times have changed huh?
