ehall8702
I'm goin to build a new box for my 4 sq 8s. I want to use a plywood that is strong and can be stained so it looks as good as it sounds. I have been using mdf for the last 20 years and have absolutely no idea what plywood would even work for a box. My buddy is a finish carpenter says cabinet grade plywood should work( at least for the nice looking part of it). Also is it ok to use 3/4" plywood like I do with mdf? Of course double baffled face. I can't afford some crazy exotic $h*t tho, something affordable, strong, and looks decent stained and laquered. Thanks in advance guys. 2009 Silverado 1500, 7.5" lift, 37x12.50r17s, Built Gen 4 5.3L ( 4.8l flat pistons, decked 243s, SS2 Cam, Pac 1218 springs, ported intake, 120mm TB, Long tubes, 3" duals HP tuner software tuned by me), 4l80e swapped and 4.56 gears. All done by me. stereo is Pioneer avh 600ex, all stinger rca, jp23 v1.5, skar rp150.4, and hertz hpd4. 2 SHCA 6.5 8ohm, 1 SHCA 3.5", and 1 DS18 tw120pro in each door. He builds cabinets and custom furniture not speaker boxes. I've always thought plywood resonated to much to use for a sub box anyways so I have always used mdf with carpet or bedliner. 1 hour ago, Soccerballzs said: Use MDF with wood veneer over it. And I'll look into Baltic birch that's what I was thinking before I posted because I have read it a few places. 2009 Silverado 1500, 7.5" lift, 37x12.50r17s, Built Gen 4 5.3L ( 4.8l flat pistons, decked 243s, SS2 Cam, Pac 1218 springs, ported intake, 120mm TB, Long tubes, 3" duals HP tuner software tuned by me), 4l80e swapped and 4.56 gears. Mike4068
The birch is lightweight, strong and very good looking stained.

Birch will resonate if you do not do proper bracing.
Booger weldz
You can laminate the inside with a urethane type product and totally kill mdf in weight and rigidity for speaker applications. Theres a youtube video thats mildly scientific where a decently geeked out presentation is still interesting and explains this process quite well. Its ‘the worlds best or second best speakers’? Its interesting at the least...
