Back when cheating was a good thing? Yeah, in the 90's, some organizations used 4 ohm stereo wattage to divide competition classes. How could you "cheat" the system? Get an amp rated for high current, low impedance operation. Two shown today are the Lanzar OptiDrive 50c and Crossfire CFA-30HC. Both amps are from approx 1998 and are some of the most powerful sub "100 watt" amps ever made. Let's find out which one is king!

Are there any other amps that have that HC/HO mode like that?

This is from the era when I was just getting my d*** wet in car audio. At the time 160 was the number to beat, and horns the size of your dash were the sh** and center channel DSP's were all the rage. .....  Ahhhhh memories!!

 

.. nothing like an amp that's rated at 30w/ch at .02% THD, pumping out 800w bridged into 1ohm at maybe 1%. It makes ya realize why clamping is a thing now. No longer can you sacrifice your first born for an underrated amp to blow away your competitor with only 120 watts.
