Sundown U 18

I'm considering buying a sundown U 18 and putting it in a nice box in the back of my 2015 scion tc. This would be my first 18 inch sub. i currently have a ZV515.  My dilemma is that one day i would want to upgrade from the u-18.. but i won't ever be able to get more than 4.5 cubic feet net out of a box in my small hatchback space.  would it be possible for me to even upgrade to any other 18 without sacrificing a lot of potential... sundown suggests over 7 cubic feet for the zv5-18 i believe! which seems like so much coming from someone who's never owned an 18.

My fi 18 is in 7 cubes. Pretty standard.

Also understand that a 15 or a 12 in a more appropriate box will probably be louder than that 18 in a wrong sized box. There is a lot of trade off when the enclosure is too small or too big

U-18 in 4.5 will be louder than Zv5-15. My u series 15 was only 1db less than my zv5-15. The U series are more efficient and you'll have slightly more cone area with the U series. You won't play as low but you'll be a lot more musical.
