lets talk about amplifiers

Amplifiers simply take an input voltage and amplify that to a higher voltage. thats it, thats all they are basically designed to do at their core function and design.  I think a lot of people miss that and think amplifiers are about wattage, which is true but not the quite accurate.

Now, the impedance the amplifier sees will determine the amperage that an amplifier puts out at any given voltage, of course you can say X amplifier puts out 50v with 4v of input, but that can change based on impedance and might be more or less because of multiple factors such as efficiency and/or voltage changes at the power supply side.  At the end of the day, all the amp want to do is just make a higher voltage from a lower voltage source, all things being equal.

We dont have to go into phase angle and volt/amps or wattage as that isnt the point of this discussion but if you want to delve into that you can.

Talking about the input side of things

How much advantage do you gain in quality over a 4v preamp compared to a 2v preamp? Always wondered this and heard higher is better but why is that? Less gain is required to reach the same point ?
