High Dro
I currently have a budget system consisting of a big 3 and a run of 1/0 ofc from sky high going to an nvx vad1700 powering 2 kicker cvx 12’s at 1 ohm in their recommend ported enclosure from the manufacture tuned to 34hz but my question is would upgrading to 2 nvx vcw 15’s in their recommend Ported enclosure really result in a considerable to the ear difference and justify spending the money on the subs and materials to build an enclosure tuned to 32hz ? image91
In most cases, yes it would definitely be worth it. If space for the enclosure isn't an issue, two 12s to two 15s is a significant jump in cone area & should result in a nice increase in output. That answer is just scratching the surface to get the ball rolling though. There are other factors to consider.
AaronT
In this case even if you used vcw 12s, you'd hear a difference. They have more Xmax and motor force. Triple slug 195oz motor, 3" coil and 20mm Xmax (40mm xmech) The cvx 22 has a 2.5 inch coil, 140 oz motor and 15.4mm Xmax(31mm xmech) Now if you went to the 15vcw, it will murder it even more The vcw is your typical big motor triple slug 200 oz Chinese sub, along the lines of soundqubed, American Bass, skar, lower level sundown etc
