Sealed Box Design Help Please (for living room)

Hi,

Recently I bought a 18" 4 ohm Rockville RVW1800P4 (https://www.rockvilleaudio.com/RVW1800P4/) and a 500 watt RMS plate sub amp to pound the floor in my home entertainment system. Looking at it's TS params, it should go in a sealed box. Near as I have been able to figure, it would perform nicely in a 5 to 5.5 cf sealed box but I'd like to get confirmation.

Questions are:

  1. Where do I start when sizing a sealed box?
  2. What frequency should I be tuning for?

Thanks for the help!

For ref, the rest of the system is all older stuff:

Pioneer VSX5700S integrated amp

1 pair Infinity SM120

1 pair Infinity SM80

1 pair Infinity RS1000

1 Infinity SM Video Center Channel

2x Boston Acoustics VR500 10" 125 watt RMS powered sub

250 RMS watt amp driving 4x Bass Shaker AST-2B-4 (series/parallel)

Rockville RVW1800P4 TS Params

Frequency Response : 20 Hz to 500 Hz
Sensitivity : 105dB @ 1w/1m
REVC: 3.2 Ohm
FO: 31.852 Hz

Go by manufacturer recommended enclosure size. It should say in the paperwork that came with the subwoofer and/or on the website. If not, contact the manufacturer by phone or email and ask them the recommended size for an enclosure. And just to clarify, do you plan on running that 18” subwoofer in its own enclosure?

Hold up, this was posted over a month ago. Wtf? Never mind. OP has already made his decision and is done with this forum and will only come back if he has another question. Lol man I can’t believe I replied to this without checking the date the OP posted it and checked his last visit date. I’m gonna put a dunce cap on and sit in the corner. I will be back in 30 minutes when I’m out of time out. 🤦‍♂️
