Dafaseles
Finally got some time tonight to mess around. Here's what I did since we last spoke... Working on the grill insert for the tweeters. The grill for the 8's will be removable, but not the tweeters. It will be permanent. I started with using the chop saw and making small pieces to glue together to make a template This is what it looked like done It's ugly, but nice and straight on the inside. I didn't get any pictures of me routing with the template on top. I don't know why. Brain fart I guess. But this is what it looked like. Got the middle piece out that I'm going to use to form the grill around. I rounded the edges a little bit so the grill will be rounded just a little at the edges. I had to round both sides because I unfortunately ruined the other one lol. Drill bit walked on me way too far for me to save it. Then I took the top piece and rounded the inside corner just a little. Hopefully it doesn't look like crap in the end Twinsies So then I broke out the flush trim bit and cut a channel on the under side of the insert for the grill to sit so the insert and baffle will sit flush together so I can glue it together Here's a nice ass shot of the tweeters mounted on the baffle. This thing is heavy with the tweeters in it. In going to have to really brace this piece in the door well They are pretty tight in there, which is a good thing. The spacing worked out really well! Here's what it looks like without the grill As you can see (hopefully) it's wider in the front, then tapers a bit in the back. This one is for the passenger door. Just a little bit of style. Not much. I hope it doesn't look like shit once I also then in the door. Next, I'm going to start on the grill insert for the 8's. Hopefully my cousin gets some time to roll through as well so we can frame up these baffles. Mount them. Fleece. Fiberglass. Bondo. Paint. Mount. Fucking done! With the doors at least. Then we move on to everything else. 2011 Chevy Silverado under construction My build log here. Check it out!

Dafaseles
Here's some progress I made this weekend. I worked on the grill insert for the 8's. I started by cutting pieces and gluing them together to make my template of the shape I wanted for the 3 8's on the bottom. I originally wanted to break them all up, but I think it'll look best as one solid piece of grill mesh. Then I did the same for the single 8 on the top. Cutting little pieces and trying to get the angles right is a pain in the ass! I'm sure this would have been a million times easier if I had one of those fancy shapable template things, but I didn't want to wait until I could get one lol. Fuck it. This worked. It just took forever. Here's kind of what it will look like Use your imagination. I still need to find the edges a little, rabbit out a channel for the grill to sit underneath, shape the middle template piece for the grill to get its shape from, and mount the hardware for the piece so I can remove it when I want. Getting closer. Hopefully I can find some time during the day tomorrow to work a little. 2011 Chevy Silverado under construction My build log here. Check it out! Dafaseles
I came out to the garage tonight hoping to get these stupid things ready for the speaker grill and to be mounted. Started by rounding the top edge of the grill insert. Then, I made a little channel for the grill to sit in after I give it it's final home Then I made twins Next, I laid out where I think the best places to put the mounting hardware for the grill insert. I'm probably (most likely) going overboard, but I'm just nervous the wood will vibrate against itself and piss me off. So if you can see, they are 2 different sizes. The smaller ones, using a ²³/64" still bit is perfect. The bigger ones..... damnit! I don't have a drill bit big enough. So now I have to buy a drill bit. So I'm stuck.... again. I put the mounting piece on the ruler. It looks like it's ¹¹/16ths or ¾". So that's where I'm at now. I'm going to use drill bits to put holes in the wood, then glue the plastic mounting pieces in using E6000 glue. If anyone has a better idea how to install these stupid things, I'm all ears. 2011 Chevy Silverado under construction My build log here. Check it out! Dafaseles
Well, since my last update, I have gotten the right drill bit. What I wanted to do was drill through the 2 pieces with a small drill bit in order to center the mounting hardware to each other. That w was working out fine, until I noticed that the very small pieces that separated the 8's had completely broken. Tried to fab up new ones, they broke again. So, I had to cut them off. Oh well. No big deal. But so, I got that taken care of and now I'm in the process of gluing the low temp plastic around the baffle The stupid is pretty nice. Just a little heat from the heat gun and you can really bend it how you want. I was only able to get one strip done, which was about half the baffle. 2011 Chevy Silverado under construction My build log here. Check it out! Dafaseles
It's not stupid if it works. I actually feel we got a huge step done today. My cousin was free before the big game, so he came over. I really wanted to find out if that speaker grill material was going to work, so we focused on that. How we went about shaping the grill.... I'm a little embarrassed.... but it's not stupid of it works. Now, I don't endorse anyone doing this. It was a little dangerous. Just a little though. So, I asked my cousin what he thought the best method for bending the grill, assuming that he would say to make a box and use bolts and the impact gun. Like the video I sent him from youtube. He surprised me with "we should run it over with the truck". I assumed in doing so, I was either going to get a shitty outcome, or just break the insert, but I went along with it. As long as I knew if that gauge grill was going to work or not, that was the main goal. If I broke the insert, I would just have to make another one. I secured the insert on l onto a flat, strong board with the template tape, cut a strip of the grill material big enough to work with, went out to my work truck and set it all up in front of my driver's side front tire. My cousin held the template on place as I crept over it. again, this was dangerous. Not super dangerous, but definitely could have had a bad outcome. So please, don't do this. I had my nephew taking pictures. After I rolled over it, my cousin cut off the excess material with the grind wheel Then we bent it nice and tight using a hammer, and a putty knife this is what it looked like from the back. It sat nice and tight in the groove I made for it. So, stupid thing actually worked. We got a nice bend in the material. It sits nice and flush with the top of the insert. Sowe did it again. Damn thing worked again Sowe had just enough material to also do the top 8" speaker insert. Those two also came out pretty damn nice I have to order another, bigger piece to do the bottom part of the 8" speaker grill insert to cover the bottom 3 8's. But at least I know the material i have will work. Today was a HUGE success! 2011 Chevy Silverado under construction My build log here. Check it out!
