I do like the look of it behind that plexiglass. But when it comes to plexiglass, Steve's Escalade box, and the truck Bobby gately built for, I think sinister, with the plexiglass top and port, killed it! I know, apples to oranges 1 Quote 2011 Chevy Silverado under construction My build log here. Check it out!
 865 2.4k 139

Dafaseles
My cousin let me borough his grinder and cutting wheel, so I was able to clean up the corners on my speaker grillsthey still look pretty rough, but I think it'll look a lot better once I paint them and actually round them around the ring itself. Painting the baffle, ring, and grill all gloss black I think will guide a lot there's a couple spots where I wish I could have a do over, but it's what I have to live with. on a side note, anyone, now or in the future, looking at this thinking it's a good way to get this done.... think again! I wish I would have just taken the time to build a box, shape the templates, and drove my truck smooth on top of them, bending the speaker grill in place. Pounding the steel over and over again with a hammer, cutting the steel, pounding, cutting, then one last round of pounding.... yeah, I'm beat! So, take my advice, watch the videos and do it the right way. 1 Quote 2011 Chevy Silverado under construction My build log here. Check it out! Dafaseles
So, today, my cousin came over with a chop saw and we framed out the 8" speakers in the doorswe where moving pretty well (glue accelerator is amazing!) But we ran into a major roadblock. The way I originally wanted to do the tweeters isn't going to work. There's just not enough space. I might even have to scrap the speaker grills for the 8's as well. The 8's don't need to be protected. I just would really rather them be behind grills. The tweeters on the other hand 100% have to be protected. They're not regular car audio tweeters. So I have to protect it from accidents. We think we have a good plan. The speaker grill won't be removable, but it is what it is. Another setback is that I really wanted to be able to open my glove box with the door closed. I will not be able to unfortunately. All this would have worked and been 1 million times easier if I just had gone with 6.5"s instead of 8's. Too late now. Just have to make it work Also, mounted my new Mechman alternator. I didn't get any pictures of it mounted because I didn't finish the wiring. It's a mess. Once I finish, I'll take some pictures. 1 Quote 2011 Chevy Silverado under construction My build log here. Dafaseles
So, at this moment, doors 1 - my cousin and I 0. The way I was planning on doing my doors aren't going to work. The way I wanted to mount my grills isn't going to work. Period. I might be able to still use the baffles for the 8's, but I might not. I might have to make them a little bigger. The baffles for the tweeters, in the garbage. Too big, and u have to reverse mount the tweeters. No way around it. On top of that, the material I bought for the grills doesn't want to bend the way I need them to. The finished product would have looked terrible anyway. I'm going to start over. So I bought some new materialHUGE difference! We concluded the old steel was 20 ga and it didn't want to bend. It kept creasing itself. The new material is 22 ga steel, but, as you can see in the picture, has way more open space than the old material. Hopefully this new material works better. It'll damn sure look a lot better in my opinion. If this doesn't want to bend (holding it, it still feels quite stiff) the company I bought it from also has 24 ga. So we'll try it, and go from there. Dafaseles
On to try #2 I figured I'd make this one just a single piece. There's a lot more space around the edges for the grill insert, so it's quite a bit taller, but I think it'll still work. I'm going to finish this up, fab up the insert, mount it on the door, then I'll be able to see what I can do to mount the tweeters 1 Quote 2011 Chevy Silverado under construction My build log here.
