Was wondering how to determine if I should use 2x4"

6"

2x6"

Etc for one 15" sub

15" Neo Elite

135AH Lithium Bank

Taramps Bass30k

320a Brand X Purple Metallic Ho Alt

Well the exact sub in question is important. If the manufacturer lists the the recommended port area, just do a few quick calculations, and there you go. If not, give the company a call, and ask them what "will work the best" with your sub. One larger port is more efficient that multiple smaller ones.

Areo ports look cool, but don't really do that much that a regular round port doesn't. They will reduce port noise (air turbulence over the edges of the port) but if your port area is sufficient in the first place. you shouldn't have much of that anyway. BTW, 6" "flared ports" are pretty easy to make :) I used 6" PVC riser tube (cheap) sat an old bowling ball on one end then slowly heated the edge of the pipe, while spinning it around, with a heat gun until it started to flare.

^ What he said. One port is the better option, but if you split into multiple ports the LENGTH remains the same!!! If you halve the length for two ports you will be tuning way high, so make sure you keep the same length for each port regardless of how many you have.

You probably will want to go with atleast an 8" aero port for that 15, just under 50" squared of port area.

You can find the port area of a aero port (or a circle) via googles tool. Just input radius. Formula is Pi * r squared.

Thank u so much for ur replies and info!!! I Did order one about a week and half ago from big ass ports, but never got a tracking number, messaged the guy on here, still nothing back. so went to lowes and got some 6" pvc.

the sub in question is a 15" Neo Elite. Yeah i havent done the truck build yet, covid shit has really slowed that down 😕 so wanted to make a box to specs for the neo, since the one i had was made for my 15" TRF. And there is little to no info for the DC Neo Elites. I'll give them a call monday tho, idk why i didnt think of that.

btw the bowling ball trick, holy crap thats slick lol i may h ave to do that since cant buy flared ends from HD, lowes, etc. TYVM

8" Wow ! That's a big port. But I wouldn't really be surprised. Subs nowadays are made to move a lot of air.

Ya' know, if you have a hard time finding 8" pipe, you might try using a piece of 8" Sono tube. You can paint it inside and out really thick with fiberglass resin (or even a layer of fiberglass) to toughen it up, plus make it non pourous.

You could probably even flare the end with enough work, resin, and sanding.... But with an 8" port, it would just be for looks. You will never get port noise with an 8" port.

I’ve been meaning to ask you. What ohm load are the voice coils on that neo elite?

:stupid:“How can we help you?”
:guido:
“And don’t forget to tell them that
the customer isn’t always right.”

Hey if your going to do the bowling ball, let me just give you one pointer..... Keep the heat right at the edge of the pipe, especially at first until the edge start to curl away from the ball. If you heat too much of the pipe at one time, it will try to buckle further down.

Of course if you screw it up, you can always cut off the lip, sand it flat and try again.

Did you find those 6" riser tubes ? You can get those 6" x 24" for like $8.99 @ Home Depot or Lowe's.
