Sundown Audio

Amp RCA input/output VS left/right

Backwoods

Recommended Posts

Just replaced a DD audio 500rms amp with a sundown 1000rms amp.

The RCA input on the amps is totally different. DD has 2 sets, one for input one for output, then a left and right channel for each... Easy.

The sundown has one set, and one plug is labeled as input and one plug is output. No colors or anything. So how do I know which RCA plug goes in each one?

I was using the red as right channel on the DD amp. Pictures should further clarify.

The amp I replaced....

get a y addapter and plug both signals into the INPUT side

Thanks. I'll get one...

I've already tried it playing with these put in both ways, would that hurt anything? .. I didn't notice any difference in sound.

What was happening with them plugged in one in input one in output?

you won't hurt anything by only plugging one side into the INPUT side, with the exception of the rare times the bass channel is actually recorded in stereo.

As far as plugging one into the OUTPUT side, i'm not sure what happens.

Thanks. I'm seeing if any local stores has any y adapters... I'd rather get one now than ordering one.

Local shop that installed the head unit for me advised against connecting both RCA into the one amp input with a y adapter, said it could overheat the headunit... They said only run one RCA into the amp... They wouldn't even sell me the Y adapter because they said they don't want the liability of me burning up the head unit since they offer lifetime warranty on install...

I know lots of radios only have 1 RCA output for subs.. mine has 2... I doubt it's best to only plug one in... Seems like I wouldn't be getting all of the signal.

one is just fine. Most sub channels are mono anyway. I'm not sure how it would hurt it to run a Y adapter but one is just fine and there won't be any signal loss.
