Bitten, please assist

Good morning all. I have been bitten by the upgrade bug & it's burning a hole in my pocket. I have a 4 door sedan. Currently in the trunk are (2) 12"s [600 rms each] in that company's pre-fab box. They are powered by a 1500 watt amp at 1 ohm. Levels, gains & crossover points setup with DD1+ & CC1. It all sounds great and dandy but I want more. All upgrades to the electrical have been done, 2 batteries, big 3, 1/0 gauge, yadda yadda.. Let's just talk about the speakers, box & amp. I currently have no means of building, cutting & creating my own box. No tools. No garage space due to mother-in-laws crap in there. I am eyeing the Gately Audio (2) 12" flatpack. I just glue & screw. It's within reasonable budget. I would love to have their other production box but at that price, no, but maybe after the next Stimulus check lol. I want to get rid of the current 12"s I have, there are entry level in my opinion. I am on the fence about getting another better set of 12"s or how about just one 15"? Both of Gately's flatpacks will fit in the trunk, 2 12" or 1 15". I want more harder hitting bass. It hits now, it hits DAMN GOOD but I know I can do better than the current subs in the trunk now. If I keep the current 1500 watt amp that kinda limits my choices of 12"s to just a few if I want to have the amp a little stronger than the subs. I have no problem swapping the amp to a 2000 watt version or maybe even the T Smart 3. If I keep the amp & power 1 15" rated at 1500 rms, would that be better then the current setup OR ditch the amp, get a more rms version & get better 12"s? I am trying not to spend more than $299 per sub if i go with 2 12". I kinda like the $150-250 price bracket. I see some SA on Amazon but they start at $299. Can I just get 1 good 15" for under the price of 2 12"s that will make me want to stop upgrading? Will 1 15 not be better than 2 12" in a sedan with 1500 watts?

I like the part at the end of your post where asked, "can you get something that will make you stop upgrading" ......Well, no 😀 Lol I don't care what you get, you will always want more, as long as your into it 🙂

Just the way this car audio thing is.

But just so you know, their are only a few ways to get louder. 1) more, or bigger subs. 2) more power. (given that your enclosure is already optimum for the subs you have now)

And also, you should know that things work on the "diminishing returns" principal. So to double your speaker cone area, only gives you about 3 more dB's. (although this oversimplifies it a bit, as X-max matters to) Or, to double your current power only gives about 3 dB's

You can't make enough cubes for two 15"s huh ?

Two budget 15"s in a good ported box, with a nice budget 3k amp would definitely give you a good fix.... For a little while.

Btw, I think the Gately flat pack is a great idea ! But he will put that pack together based on specific subs, correct ? I mean he would have to, for that enclosure to be optimum.

Which 12s and which amp are you currently running? All equipment is not created equally so without knowing what gear exactly that you're running now it's hard to recommend something better.

You can get 2 SA series 12s for under 250 each if you go with the classics or the rev3 SAs.

Two 12s have more cone area than one 15. But there are lots of variables. For example... Two Sony xplode 12s in a Sony prefab box with a boss 1500 amp for instance still won't hit harder than 1 quality 15 in a custom built box with a true 1500 RMS. But with all things otherwise equal, more cone area equals more output.

Big 3 W/ dual runs of power/ground. All 1/0awg OFC

I don't believe I can fit 2 15"s & give them the room they need to sound good. 1 yes but I don't think 2.

Trunk dimensions are 42W X 19H X 30D, I want to allow to put some items in the trunk if I take wifey to the grocery store. Those dimensions would have the box pushed all the way back behind the rear seat, subs facing towards trunk lid & allowing some space in the front.

Here is the flatpack info so the 12"s I get must be based off these specs.

Measures 32.5” X 16” X 20” — 60” of port area

Side fire, slot ported enclosure .75” Russian Baltic Birch

Tunes to 34hrz and has an estimated bandwidth of 26-68hrz

Skar makes some great stuff ! Even the guys that talk shit about Skar, more often talk about the people that run the company, than they do about the company. Personally speaking, I've even had some good talks with the guys there. Never had any problems with them.

LOVE my 18" Skar ZVX 🙂

Bro ! I just checked your max dimensions, and you could put a 10 cu box on that space !

Two 15"s would be easy, with space to spare. Heck, you could dam near squeeze a 10 cube box with two 18"s.....

But two 15"s all day long.... Or even 3 or 4 12"s.....

Gately Audio doesn’t make a 2 15” flat pack but this other company does. https://gpcaraudio.com/15-dual-compact-glue-it-screw-it-sub-enclosure/
This other company doesn’t pre drill the holes & does not dado per some reviews. The only thing about Gately’s box is that the port is on the side instead of the front like my current box or their premium version. There would be space between the port & the side wall of the trunk but not sure if that would hinder any spl or sq. I like your advice about the 2 15”s but I am more leaning towards the 2 12”s after some serious thought. EVL-12s, SVR-12 & SA-12 are on my list now.

Yea I hear you. Just saying, a couple of these with a little budget 2500 or 3000 amp would slap 🙂

I know you said you didn't have the space or tools....

But you can damn near make your own flat pack.

What I always do / recommend, is to find a specialty wood store... Or at least a good lumbar yard "(not a home Depot or Lowe's) carry them a cut sheet, and walk out with your own flat pack.

It would probably take me about 15 minutes with a piece of scratch paper and calculator to make a cut sheet for those two 15"s.

I'd do that for you if you wanted me to.
